how long does it take to build a basic website

An important question is, how long does it take you to build a website for your online business? And this can be tricky to answer because I don't know what your background experience is, how comfortable you are with building websites, and so on.

But I can make an assumption: And that is, it's safe for me to assume that you're relatively new to building websites because when we're starting out, it can feel like we have this huge mountain in front of us, right?

So let's try to nail things down. I think it's important to get clear on things and know exactly what you're getting yourself into, right?

So first off, know that the biggest cost to building your online business website is your time. Going this route, you're saving the huge, huge cost of hiring someone to build your website for you (which can easily reach $8000, $10,000...or more depending on what you want)...

...not to mention relinquishing complete control of your online business to a "for hire" designer or developer. In terms of actual hours...it can take 30 to 40 hours to build what you have in mind (again, depending on the complexity). Adjust this a bit for two factors:

First, your experience level. Again, if you've never built a website before, you'll want to factor this in. Most people underestimate just how time-consuming building a website is. The other factor is, the kind of online business you have in mind.

If it's something simple, like a basic one-page website with an order form or booking form, then that's obviously going to take much less time than a full-scale e-commerce website with hundreds of products.

Something else to keep in mind is this: You don't have to learn everything there is to know about web design. The important thing to remember here is that we want to be autonomous, self-sufficient online business owners FIRST...not web designers.

This means that you can learn this stuff to a point that you're comfortable with...and then when needed you can always temporarily higher a designer or developer for specific tasks.
