Worcester City Council Declares Itself a ‘Sanctuary City’ for Trans-Identifying Individuals

The Worcester City Council in Massachusetts on Tuesday approved a resolution declaring the city a sanctuary for trans-identifying individuals, following a contentious meeting that saw lengthy
public testimony and impassioned debate.

The resolution passed with a 9-2 vote after more than three hours of public input from LGBT advocates, GBH reports. Many of the speakers urged the city to take a stronger stand against what they described as attacks on the trans-identifying community, particularly from the Trump administration.

One advocate, Cayden Davis, addressed the council, demanding for trans-identifying individuals to be recognized for their humanity.
I’m demanding, no longer asking, for my humanity to be recognized, Davis said.
