This is a layered vocal performance of mine, created with Cakewalk by Bandlab. It was one of the first vocal covers with clip-style video I made for viewing on "Happy hour with Lex and Tony" on Twitch and I decided to use the editing skills I had acquired since then to revisit and re-edit the entire piece. I felt that the original vocal was a little hidden in the mix and wanted to change some of the video clips, timing and transitions to improve the overall quality. The backing track used is the song Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars and if you like it, please buy/stream the original from your favoured streaming service or store. During the recording process I looked up the meaning to the phrase "children of a lesser god" and discovering it was used to describe people with disabilities I listened back to the lyrics. Suddenly their meaning changed from Jared Leto's original meaning and I was reminded of the story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan. Now the kings and queens are not giving unfulfilled promise but instead, Teachers are the the kings and Queens of unlocking a child's true potential through their promise to teach them. Being a teaching assistant myself and often teaching children with special educational needs like autism on a one-to-one basis, this song now has a much deeper and powerful meaning for me. We are really only held back by the barriers and prejudices we impose on ourselves, where in reality, nothing is beyond our grasp if we transpire to work towards it. If you can watch this without shedding a tear then I suggest that perhaps you weren't listening and watching closely enough.
