5/8 "And the true Faith was kept alive by Ordinary Folk - not by the Eclesiastical Hierarchy"
5/8 "The cause of Truth was at its lowest point (4thc). The Latins (West) had ended up submitting to a non-Catholic Creed (Arianism); the Pope had surrendered; Athanasius was in exile; the Arians occupied most principal Episcopal Sees; Then, Julian (the Apostate)proclaimed himself Emperor in his native city of Constantinople". (St John Henry Newman).

4/8 "The Church won't shipwreck completely but is now in a state of dissolution". St Basil 373 AD
4 of 8. History of the Church. “The Catholic peoples, throughout Christendom, were the stubborn champions of the Catholic truth. The bishops were not”. (John Henry Newman).
“Of a sudden the world woke up Arian”. St Jerome, translator of the Bible.
St. Basil: “When the Devil saw that despite the persecutions carried out by the Romans the church grew and flourished more and more, he, (the Devil), changed plans. No longer did he fight openly but rather arranged for his own persecution to be secret, hidden, hiding its betrayal under the very name you call yourselves, under the name of Christians; and so we now suffer the same our parents suffered in their day (open persecution), though this time it does not seem to be directly against from pagans, as it was evident then, for our persecutors call themselves also Christians”. "The faithful observance of the traditions of the Fathers, and our own fathers, is now punished terribly as a crime: those who fear God are exiled from their homeland and to desert places, judged by iniquitous judges who respect neither our gray hairs, nor the observance of religion, nor living according to the Gospel, or any and all of us who have remained faithful from our youth. The whole Church is now in a state of dissolution. (Year 373)

3/8 Which indicates a higher mind? Prohibiting evil-doing or prohibiting evil-speaking? (Tertullian)
To Robert Kennedy: The Christian Martyrs went to the lions for daring to proclaim and DEFEND the One True Faith! Facing such cruel death, they didn't recant and they didn't apostatize! A religion is a religion, not a philosphy, not an ideology (religion without God), not a political stand!
A Ray of Hope for our troubled times. History of the Catholic Church: The Persecutions of Christians and the Roman Empire. !st Century after Christ.
The title is from Tertullian, first-century Christian, from his book "Defence" of Christianity, or "Apologia", addressing the pagan Romans and their persecutions of Christians:
"We have a perfect knowledge of what goodness is, being taught by a perfect Master, God himself. And faithfully we do His will, being commanded by a Judge we dare not despise. Your ideas of virtue, on the other hand, come from mere human opinion, and you are commanded by human authority. This means that your understanding of morality is deficient: it is incomplete and lacks the authority to produce a life of real virtue. Human knowledge of what is good is easily deceived, and human authority is easily despised. So, which is the better rule, to say, “You shall not kill,” or to teach “Do not even be angry?” Which is more perfect, to forbid adultery, or to restrain from a single lustful look? Which indicates the higher mind, prohibiting evil-doing or evil-speaking?
As always, following Fr. Javier Olivera Ravasi in his series of lectures'The History of the Church'.

The Judeo Greco-Roman Catholic Tradition - History of The Church 1/8
1 of 8. Plenitude of Time. The Greco-Roman world. Roman Empire. Octavius Augustus. "The true God, the God who revealed Himself to the people of Israel, chose the Greco-Roman world, with its culture and its laws, to reveal Himself gradually until the coming of 'The Plenitude of Time'. (Gal 4.4) It was these 'Semina Verbi' - these 'Seeds of the Word' in the words of St. Justin, Martyr, that the Apostles, and especially St. Paul, used to preach from the truths spread throughout the centuries among the pagan peoples.
I'm thankful to the Series "History of the Church" given by Fr. Javier Olivera Ravassi, an Argentinian traditional Catholic priest. Thank you, Father, for a magnificent series. Link to Lecture 1 (in Soanish)

Authority over Truth? Charity over Faith? Jesuits Story pt 3
Part 3 of 3. #jesuits, #vaticanII, #secretsocieties, Jesuit ordered restored (1815). Exiled in Austria, Russia. Continous expulsions. France, Spain, England treatment of Jesuits after Restoration. Fr. Arrupe, Father-General; Peter-Hans Kolvenbach.
Ireland & Australia: There were 24 ex-Jesuits in Irlanda en 1776, but one 2 by 1803. From these, Fr. O'Callahan renewed his vows in Stonyhurst in 1803, y he and Fr. Betagh, who was the last survivor were successful to find some excellent postulants who did their novitiate at Stonyhurst and their studies in Palermo, came back between 1812 y 1814. Fr. Betagh now in Vicar General in Dublin until 1811. Fr. Peter Kenney (died 1841) was the fist Superior of this new Mission, a man of great eloquence. Visited the Society in America (1830-1833), and was invited to preach before Congress. From 1812-1813, was VicePresident of Maynooth College under Dr. Murray, coadjutor in The College of Clonowes Wood started in 1813; Tullabeg in 1818, Dublín (1841); Mungret (apostolic school 1883). Additionally, in 1883, the Irish bishops trusted to the Jesuits University College, Dublin, associated to the now defunct Royal University of Ireland. The marked superiority of this College vis-a-vis those richly-endowed Queen's Colleges in Belfast, Cork y Galway contributed much to consolidate Irish Catholics to a good university education. Under the Catholic Emancipation Act, 58 Jesuits registered in Ireland in 1830. In 1910 there were 367 en the Province, out of which 100 are in Australia where they have 4 colleges in and near Melbourne and Sydney, and Missions in Southern Australia.

Behold: The SOWERS of SORROWS inflicting pain on all of us.
Yes, but we, let us not waste our suffering.
Yes, we are all overwhelmed by what is happening, as if a tempest, many storms had appeared suddenly, and we don't quite know what to do or where to turn. This is happening to all of us. In the past people were easily deceived because of lack of information; now we have too much coming from all directions and most can't discern which way to go. Too much. And in all, the realization that evil has taken over, that our leaders have been betraying us for a long time when we were still trusting them, and on, and on. We are all suffering, some physically (low paid jobs, unable to make ends meet), other mentally, most spiritually going through 'dark nights of the soul', as St John of the Cross explained. And as Job asked: Why do the righteous suffer while the wicked seem always to have a 'hell of a time' in this world (my words, sorry, Holy Job!)? Why do bad things happen to good people? Even Christ in the Cross had a moment (as man): Why hast thou forsaken me? What I found and believe, personally is that I don't know. He does, I don't. But I find respite and freedom and assurance and avoiding despair in placing myself as humbly as my pride allows before Him and saying: Ok, God, here I am, do as You please. I accept whatever You decide. It's actually quite freeing, keeping my eyes on the ball (God). Practically, I try not to watch too many repetitions of the same theme. I chose a few outlets, usually long-form, for understand what is happening, and what has just happened, but avoid too many channels and repetitions. You've got to be kind to yourself. Too much, and too many bad and despairing news is toxic. Select carefully (I'm sure you do), not too much repetition, just what's new, and then read. One finds solace in the wisdom of old. Knowing that everything has happened before, and there's always a rebirth out of the ashes of each epoch. Suffering is the lot of life, and the way God tests us too. Let us not waste our suffering!!!!
And then, like Job, we might find out that it is not for us to question God and demand an answer, but He who is putting the question to us, and we who are to respond.
Thank you for sharing.
"When Jesus came to Golgotha, they hanged Him on a tree,
They drove great nails through hands and feet, and made a Calvary;
They crowned Him with a crown of thorns, red were His wounds and deep,
For those were crude and cruel days, and human flesh was cheap.
When Jesus came to Birmingham, they simply passed Him by.
They would not hurt a hair of Him, they only let Him die;
For men had grown more tender, and they would not give Him pain,
They only just passed down the street, and left Him in the rain.
Still Jesus cried, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do,"
And still it rained the winter rain that drenched Him through and through;
The crowds went home and left the streets without a soul to see,
And Jesus crouched against a wall, and sighed for Calvary".

Christ was PEACEFUL but no PACIFIST. France: Provoking us to the point of Despair? Nah!
They looked to me sad and pathetic. The Culture of Death in all its ugliness. Spiritually empty - desperately looking for something to believe in, and anchor. Men pretending to be women: attacking the dignity of both, male and female.
I'll deal in this video, since this happened in France, with the French Revolution - The Past that is still the Present; the Catholic Church and the State; the Catholic theological concept of "Just War' against an unjust aggressor. Immorality. Amorality. The French Revolution not as a Political Movement but being about the creation of 'the New Man'.
