Noveske N6 Leonidas: Building with Jeremiah
If you have never built a AR Rifle or Pistol, there is a lot that goes into it. Even more so with some of the nuanced improvements that are present on the Noveske guns. Jeremiah walks me through building out a Noveske Leonidas N6 12.5" .308 Pistol.
Noveske makes some rad guns and it is really cool to see that their builders are practitioners as well. They have made some awesome improvements to the standard lower receivers and I have to say I am a fan of the Switch Block Gas System now that I have seen what goes into it, and spent some time shooting it.

CMMG Mk57 8" Conversion
You can find it here: https://cmmg.com/5-7-conversions
CMMG makes a number of complete AR-15 patterned rifles as well as Pistol Caliber Carbines, not to mention Conversions. Today I take a look at the CMMG Mk57 8" Conversion. A complete upper receiver, bolt carrier group and magazine that converts any Mil-Spec lower receiver into a 5.7x28mm firearm.
I've used this Mk57 conversion quite a bit, to include using it in a Runenation Level 2 Carbine Course. It is great in that it offers you all of the familiarity of a AR-15 with significantly less recoil and suppresses much nicer when compared to a 5.56. Not to mention it is a ton of fun to shoot...

If you are in the market for a LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic), take a look at the Kahles K16i 1-6x24. A nice, compact scope with some incredible light gathering capability.
When it comes to optics, Kahles has been at it for a long time. In business since the late 1800's and the pioneers of lens coating, they make some incredible optics. The K16i is no exception. It is also offered in 3 different reticles depending on what you are looking for.

When it comes to LPVOs (Low Power Variable Optics) there is a lot out there. For the money, it may be hard to beat the Primary Arms SLx 1-6x24 SFP Gen III with ACSS Reticle.
This optic is loaded with a ton of features that makes it close to ideal for a wide variety of shooters. The 1x to 6x range gives you a lot of flexibility and the SFP (Second Focal Plane) reticle keeps things easy to pick up at any magnification. And speaking of the reticle, the ACSS is great in that it can offer a lot of options with built in ranging if you choose to use it, or just simply zero your chevron and go.

Lems Boulder Boots - All Leather
You can find them here: https://www.lemsshoes.com/products/mens-boulder-boot-leather?variant=23710868766778
If you have wide feet and are looking for some minimalist all leather boots, check out Lems. They make their All Leather Boulder Boot.
I've worn different pairs of Lems Shoes for a number of years now, mainly because most of their catalog has a nice wide 2E toe box. They have some great offerings to include their Boulder Boots which I've put tons of miles on backpacking out in the mountains. So when they introduced their All Leather Boulder Boots, I tried a pair out.

The ATF and the Honey Badger Pistol by Q
"This aggression will not stand, man..." - The Dude
The ATF, in a letter to Q LLC, arbitrarily and without any evidence, declared that all Honey Badger Pistols, utilizing a pistol stabilizing brace made by SB Tactical, to now be a "Short Barreled Rifle" regulated by the National Firearms Act. Turning lawful citizens into felons that can be sentenced to 10 years in prison and made to pay $10,000 in fines.
The ATF is out of place and ultimately this speaks to a broader issue of agencies in the government creating laws, when they have no business creating laws.
Follow this link to make your voice heard.
Or call Nicholas O'Leary of the ATF at 617-557-1203 (Director of Industry Operations).

Coleman FreeFlow Insulated Water Bottle
Find the water bottle here: https://amzn.to/3FmIS1K
When it comes to insulated water bottles, the Coleman FreeFlow Autoseal has some great features. I've been using this one for over two years now. It is still going strong and has managed to not get two dinged up considering what my boys and I have put it through. The mouth piece on it makes it ideal for drinking from while driving or most any other activity. Unlike a wide mouth Nalgene bottle where you'll probably spill half of it in the process. And the double wall insulation keeps things cold or hot respectively.

Baseline Single Point Sling by Lunar Concepts
Find the Baseline Sling here: https://wisemencompany.com/baseline-single-point-sling/
While there are a number of Single Point Slings on the market, the Baseline Single Point Sling by Lunar Concepts is the best one I've come across.
It is lightweight and easy to adjust. And it comes with a open tail and two triglides, letting you attach it to most any thing from QDs to AK sling points or even the buffer tube of AR Pistols. It does well paired with a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) or any other compact firearm.
While Single Point Slings, aren't my favorite, they do shine when it comes to transitioning from shoulder to shoulder, reloads or even transitioning to pistols.
You can find the Baseline Single Point Sling at Wise Men Company.

When it comes to most any piece of gear, knives included, it is a tradeoff. What is the task at hand and what is the best tool for the job. Enter the Terava Skrama 240 by Varusteleka. Think of it is a big ass knife, hatchet and short sword rolled into one.
I will say from experience, the blade excels at chopping. It does an amazing job limbing trees or even cutting down, or apart, smaller trees. But the blade also lends itself to smaller and finer tasks thanks to the geometry near the handle.
The knife boasts a 9.4" blade and weighs just over a pound. They can be purchased with a plastic sheath or with a leather sheath depending on how you plan to carry it.
You can find the Terava Skrama 240 directly through Varusteleka.

USMC Happy Suit by Wild Things Gear
The Marine Corps Happy Suit, or the High Loft Pants, Jacket and Boots by Wild Things Gear.
When the temperature drops and things get really cold, you need the appropriate gear. And while there are plenty of good insulation layers out there, most are made for being active. As in they'll keep you comfortable as long as you keep moving. But certain tasks or situations don't require movement, such as sitting in LP/OP (Listening Post / Observation Post) out hunting in a tree stand, or just hanging out around camp. That is where highly insulated layers come in.
The U.S.M.C. High Loft gear by Wild Things will keep you toasty warm in most any weather. It uses Primaloft Sport insulation inside and is covered with a windproof, water resistant, breathable shell. All of the gear is Berry Amendment Compliant, made here in the USA.

A-DAP Target System by TA Targets
When it comes to steel targets, not all targets are created equal. In this video I take a look at the Mini A-DAP Target System from TA Targets.
While TA Targets (Tactical AR500 Targets) makes a number of different steel targets for shooting, I find the Mini A-DAP the most flexible. It does a great job with pistol at closer ranges and is still useable at further distances. Not to mention it is made out of 1/2" AR550 steel. And to top it all off, TA Targets offers a bombproof base that is amazing. It is incredibly stable and won't blow over.

M&P 15-22 by Smith & Wesson

If you could have any rifle you wanted and you were 8 years old, what would it be? Probably a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22, because they're rad.
That is what my son got for Christmas last year (2019) and since then we've put a lot of rounds through it. It is a fun little rifle and cheap to shoot. And unlike a lot of "youth" rifles, it gives young shooters repetitions that are transferable to larger "real" rifles, like the AR-15. :)
And if you want to take it to the next level, shoot suppressed with a good rimfire silencer like the Erector by Q.
You can find the M&P 15-22 at Shooting Surplus.

For the money, this is probably one of the best cook sets out there. It is made of 18/8 stainless steel which won't rust on you and is easy to clean with a scrub pad or even sand from a creek or lake shore. The lid has holes that allow you to easily drain water if you need to and even comes with two 10 oz insulated cups for hot beverages. And all for about $13.00... KR-9 by Kalashnikov USA
Introducing the KR-9 by Kalashnikov USA. What is it? It is the Russian Vityaz. And if you are still wondering what it is, think of it as Russia's very own version of the H&K MP-5 sub machine gun.
The KR-9 is a ton of fun to shoot, especially suppressed. And to that end, it comes with a 9.25" threaded barrel at 1/2 x 28 thread pitch, making it easy to thread on suppressors. While this version is the SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) version with the triangle folding stock, they do offer pistols as well as rifles.

Father Son Backpacking: June 2020
Sometimes you need to disconnect, load up the backpacks and head out to the mountains. Over the span of three days and two nights, a number of fathers and sons, myself and my boys included, enjoyed the outdoors.
A group of us, 5 adults and 14 children, ranging from 6 to 18 or so, headed out into Montana, East of Clark Fork, ID. While our plan was to initially backpack a point to point trip over those three days, plans changed when we found ourselves standing on a snow covered shore at the upper lake. So we just shifted our plans and made the most of it.
Spending our time setting out on day hikes, practicing starting fires, exploring and fishing. It was an amazing time in the mountains.

#JustAsGood
Often times when I hear someone say their gun, gear, fill in the blank, is "just as good," well... "You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means." - Inigo Montoya
That is not to say there isn't comparable gear and guns out there, but it often appears as the rally cry of rationalization. A sub $400 300 Blackout pistol off of Armslist is not just as good as Q's Honey Badger. A Condor softshell is not on the same level by any stretch of imagination as the Wild Things Active Flex Jacket. Mechanically, those two guns work on the same principles and yes, you can wear either jacket, but they are not the same.
Here is the catch though, we can make the "just as good" statement true with the addition of two words. "This (fill in the blank) is just as good for me." There are a lot of products out there that are just as good for me. By way of example, if the possibility of a gun going down means I just have to stop and fix it or maybe cut short that trip to the range, that isn't a big deal. Because I'm out having fun at the range. If I was overseas with a product of questionable quality, the possibility of said gun going down has serious consequences by comparison.
So is something "Just as good," or is it "Just as good for me"?

Atibal X 1-10x30 FFP Scope
While there are a lot of LPVOs (Low Power Variable Optic) on the market, Atibal was the first to bring out a 1-10. Giving shooters the ability to use the scope on 1x magnification, similar to a red dot, or turn it all the way up to 10x to be able to refine their sight picture and identify targets.
I've use the Atibal X 1-10x30 FFP Scope for a number of months. Shooting it on my prototype 5.56 Sugar Weasel by Q, as well as competing in Desert Brutality 2020 with the scope mounted on a AR-10 by American Defense Manufacturing.
Having a magnification range of 1x to 10x is pretty nice. It opens up the opportunity to squeeze more out of your rifle with respect to engagement distances, as well as readily identify targets and even range using the Mil reticle.

Raider Pants by Prometheus Design Werx
All pants are not made equal. One of my favorite pant designs out there is the Raider Pant by Prometheus Design Werx. For my lifestyle and use, to include hiking, backpacking, trips to the range and all around general adventures, these are the best laid out pants I've found.
Unlike a lot of larger companies, PDW makes their products in batches. They will make a run of these Raider Pants for example in a specific cloth. When that run is sold out, they will make another run. So far I have a pair of the Raider Pant in their Guide Cloth (think soft shell), heavy canvas and NYCO+. When looking at their gear, make your purchase based on the type of material you need in your pants for the type of activities you'll be doing.
You can find the Raider Field Pant NYCO+ here.
