There was a festival happening back at home that we had free volunteer tickets to, and after it being cancelled for two years (let's not talk about that), we refused to let it pass by. The problem was... we were on the east coast, and the festival was on the west coast. Flying was going to be a huge pain for a lot of reasons, so we decided to take the train... for 5 days... in coach (not a sleeper car). Was this really less of a pain than flying? You'll have to watch to find out.
SPOILERS:
We got on our first leg of the trip at 4am, unslept, hungry, thirsty, and exhausted. Probably not the best way to start off a journey. We were promised extra large seats for overnights, but this train did not have this accommodation. Cody curled up in my lap and I kept watch all night. Cody got food poisoning from letting his sandwich sit out for too long and was nauseous the whole next day, so we didn't really film anything until the following morning when we got to our first layover destination.
DC had bad vibes... was it DC, or was it just the fact we hadn't slept? Either way, they wouldn't give us any water and the fountains were turned off. We laid in the grass at the park across from the train station for a couple of hours. We didn't film the delay, but we got inside in time for our train number to be announced, saying "your train is delayed, we will provide information as soon as it is available". This announcement repeated the same way every 10 minutes for 2 hours, until it switched to "your train is here, you better hurry up and get on it before it leaves you behind". Or something like that. It may have just said "last call for train ___".
We got on the second leg of the trip and finally found a place to fill up our water bottles. Cody wanted to try "potted meat", which turns out tastes like cat food. 0/10, do not recommend.
In the end, the train was delayed again because of a bridge ahead of us being structurally unsound. Watch part 2 to find out what happens next :)

During our Amtrak trip back to Portland, OR, we ran into multiple holdups, including getting stuck overnight in Whitefish, Montana.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Best Western, courtesy of Amtrak. Awesome Best Western, BTW.
Free breakfast, comfy bed, hot tub, beautiful scenery... Best of all, we enjoyed a silly and playful dance-off in front of our hotel while we waited for our shuttle back to the train station.
When Katrina told me "show me your moves" and put the camera on me, I assumed she was jokingly putting me on the spot, so did my best goofy " birdy dance".
Evidently, she was all too serious about wanting to have a cute AF dance-off with me. Oops! Next time...
Enjoy! :)

This cute video was shot in Washington DC on our Amtrak trip from Spartanburg, SC to Portland, OR. The squirrels just outside Union Station in a nearby park were incredibly tame, and hopeful for treats! This particular guy was more than willing to do a cute tail flagging dance for his dinner as he approached me. Instantly won our hearts and a couple raw almonds for his efforts. :)
Enjoy!

Filmed April of 2022
This video is pretty simple... the first place we camped in Orlando was hot, muggy, buggy, and full of garbage. After picking up as much trash as we could fit in our bin, we escaped off to a much better camping spot at a state park. Who knew paying for camping would be so luxurious? Hot showers, electricity, and a picnic table made this one of the easiest places we camped on our whole trip. I do remember it being difficult to back into the spot, but we made it work (unfortunately we didn't film that part). The last bit of the video is a beautiful motorcycle ride; I don't remember where we were going specifically, probably just a tour around the area.

This trip was so much fun. We ended up walking up and down the beach for an entire day, frolicking in the waves, sunning ourselves, and getting sand in our shorts. I (Katrina) had never been to the east coast before, so swimming in a warm ocean was a really surreal experience. My previous ocean "swims" consisted of me dipping my toes in, walking on rocks to stay out of the frigid Pacific. Feeling the first wave touching my toes was like sipping a glass of water I thought was sprite.
We stayed with a couple of friends who generously let us park our trailer in their driveway, and even mooch some of their power. Apparently we only got a tiny snippet of video with them, which is a shame! We had an awesome time with them.
We went on a 4 hour motorcycle ride to Venice Beach, which was incredibly packed and there was no parking to be found (under like $30, which we weren't willing to pay for an hour of beach time). Instead of walking the beach we rode around the city and ended up getting a huge pizza to eat off of a random dock/wall thing while watching the sunset. We stopped filming at that point, but I do have to say, the way back was surprisingly cold!
Next week we explore Orlando, FL. We'll visit Disney World with my friend from college, and walk around some rural swampy Florida wilderness. Subscribe for more :)

Moto Riding Around North Florida
While camping in Northern Florida we got to spend some time in some really cool places and dirt biked around. It seemed like almost all of the ground in FL is sand or loose sand-like clay, so it was sometimes difficult for inexperienced Katrina to stay upright. I think this is the first video that features her riding much, enjoy!

Picking up after trash people in Northern Florida (also a #vlog with moto rides and beautiful lakes)
Filmed late March and early April of 2022
This vlog is not entirely a trash pick up, but I do think it's important to draw attention to how much trash people leave around with complete disregard for their environment. Not just "the environment" (like the environmental impacts of the trash), but the environment they live in and visit all the time. It amazes me how many people are willing to let garbage pile up everywhere they go. Does it not detract from the enjoyment of their outdoor activities when there's a dirty diaper from last week's visit floating next to where you're fishing? We picked up around 10 bags of trash, including several dirty diapers. I saw one lady drop one RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! There were trash cans 20 feet from us.
Anyway, the rest of this vlog is us having a great time dirt biking around a couple of locations, having to leave one area because the service is terrible, and driving through what felt like a waterfall. The lake where we ended up was beautiful and mirror clear.

A friendly snake hunts its dinner
This snake popped out of the water, slowly sneaking toward dinner. It seemed so curious about us at first, but it turns out was actually just tasting the air. To see the full clip from start to finish (with satisfying "lip smacking" at the end), watch our vlog from Northern Florida. I'll link it when it comes out!

Shucking Oysters and "Day" Drinking on Moving Day in Kiln, Mississippi #fulltimerv #rvlife #travel
Filmed March 12th, 2022
After a long, stormy couple of weeks in New Orleans, Louisiana, we decided it was time to move. Of course it was the sunniest, most beautiful day we'd seen the whole time... it couldn't be helped though because Sparkles (our KLR) was out of commission until we could get the chain situation fixed. As an incentive to get out on the road sooner, we made a plan to have oyster shooters and bloody Marys when we got to our next spot. And grilled oysters with garlic butter and lemon (I realize I called it "barbecued" in the video which is incorrect and I apologize to all my Texan friends who are well aware I don't know anything about true barbecuing).
We saw an apartment building burning down on our way, and drove on a flat bridge basically at the level with the ocean (or some other very large body of water). We did make it to our next spot in the daylight after picking up our 40 lb bag of oysters, but Cody insisted on thoroughly cleaning the trailer before we ate (as usual, keeping a lady from her dinner), so we didn't end up with any daylilght to do the rest of our activities. Unperturbed, we went ahead anyway with headlamps to shuck oysters by. It's to be expected that we grill in the dark at this point.
Watch us struggle to get the oysters shucked, and get some tips for how to do a better job if you ever try it.
We didn't end up filming a ton after this because it was rainy and there were TONS of people everywhere, but I'll explain that in the next video.

Military Boat Launch Near New Orleans
Hello!
This video was filmed 3/2022.
We arrived to a beautiful spot just outside New Orleans that offered free camping for a couple weeks.
Our camping spot was right by the water, and one day we woke up to a massive amount of large vehicle noise just outside the trailer. I opened the door to find the area crawling with military trucks and similar. I grabbed the camera, and headed out the door to further investigate.
I found a nice spot on a dock to hangout and watch as they very slowly launched a few boats, and even a floating dock that they towed out into the pond.
Enjoy!

Touring the Tabasco Factory and Petting Alligators on Avery Island, Louisiana
Come #withme (us) on a tour of the Tabasco Factory and Jungle Gardens on Avery Island in Louisiana (filmed March 5th, 2022).
Cody ended up with a bag of pepper pulp, a delicious leftover of the tabasco making process. Katrina tried the scorpion sauce and got so anxious from the heat she had to go outside and rock herself back to normalcy. Chill vibes, lots of laughs, fermenting peppers, and snowy egrets. Watch until the end to see if we get to pet any gators (no gators were harmed in the making of this video).

High Speed Riding on Our Kawasaki KLR650 Near New Orleans, LA
Hello!
This video was recorded 2/2022.
Katrina and I did a good bit of riding on Sparkles, our 2016 Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle when we visited New Orleans, Louisiana. This was one of those rides.
First off, when I say "high speed riding" I mean much of the riding was actually freeway speeds, but also that I sped the video up 400% for a little extra satisfaction for the viewer.
I first did a solo ride from our camping area and headed over to Walmart in the opposite direction from New Orleans to get some groceries before heading back to the trailer.
The second segment of the ride began when I picked up my lady, and off we went, this time actually over to New Orleans!
This video has a good mix of stop-and-go maneuvering thru traffic, and plenty of stuff upwards of 70mhp out on the open road.
This was a pretty simple video to make, but find it pretty satisfying to watch. Hope ya'll enjoy it!

Raging Party at Mardi Gras 2022, New Orleans, Louisiana - Crazy Mess!
Hello!
This video was recorded 3/2022.
We hadn't aimed for this, but we found ourselves near New Orleans, the home of Mardi Gras at just the right time to join in the massive party that happens. The past two years got skipped due to covid, so everyone had extra pent up "party animal" that needed to be unleashed!
We motorcycled over to New Orleans the day before Fat Tuesday, the day before the end of Mardi Gras; Lundi Gras. We Found some fun stuff like parades and floats, and everyone getting the party started as the sun went down. We stayed out for a bit, but ended up going home relatively early.
The next day, we took our truck so Katrina could drive my drunk butt home that night, and hit the road headed for a good time. When we got to the city, we found the most epic crowd of peeps; some showing off their motorcycles and cool cars, others day drinking and cooking lunch on the BBQ. People literally brought their whole cooking situation out to the side of the road so they could have a tailgate cookout while watching the floats and people being wild. Some people had their own massive sound systems too, often too loud to even walk by without hurting our ears. This place was awesome! Everyone living their best life for sure.
We got as close as we could to the floats; beads and other novelty trash flying everywhere we looked. After the last float in the area went by, we walked down the middle of the road, in total awe of the sheer volume of garbage crunching under our feet as we moved. A small child walking with his parents picked up a noise maker and blew it; this did not last long as mom had zero chill left for unnecessary noise, and yelled at him as she swatted it from his hand. Mom did have a good point...
We both looked at all this with a moderate feeling of sadness at the level of wasted plastic, but clearly we did not come here to bring our earth-loving, bottle reusing, hippie values to the party people of Mardi Gras.
We continued walking for a bit, but I finally got fed up with the lack of a drink in my hand, so first got a daiquiri to go (they allows public drinking here) and off we went. Katrina got annoyed because I now had a drink so we were not able to go in any restaurants to get food until I finished. Sorry babe! I found this drink to be all but undrinkable due to how sweet it was, so we found a corner store and I got a large flask of Bacardi rum and took that outside the store, and poured myself a much stronger cocktail by adding it to my slushy. That'll fix all my problems! Haha
After spending most of the rest of the day out wandering the streets together, we finally got way too hungry and stopped for some Gyros and to finally sit a bit while we people watched. The owner of this place paid a homeless man with food to open the door for customers. Definitely a cool way to help the homeless. :)
Katrina was so, so excited to get this particular kinda of pastry that New Orleans is known for. We made a pretty epic effort trying to find some, talking to locals, googling, etc. We finally found a place, but it ended up being closed! Poor Katrina.
We found another seafood restaurant to get a late night dinner of fish and oysters, and a few cocktails.
We put our earplugs back in (we had been wearing these much of the day) and went back to the center of chaos, as that was what I was mainly there for. Tons of people blasting stereos, revving engines, squealing tires, drinking and being about as wild as one could hope to see.
After every last scrap of our inner party animal was satisfied, we headed back to our truck. We were happy to find nobody had caused any damage; we climbed in and Katrina got some practice driving us home through the remaining chaos.
Hope ya'll enjoy!
