Dive Bomber vs Zeros
May 8, 1942, Battle of the Coral Sea. Lieutenant Stanley "Swede" Vejtasa from Scouting Squadron FIVE (VS-5) in an SBD Dauntless, is in patrol over the aircraft carrier U.S.S. YORKTOWN (CV-5). Fate has a surprise for Vejtasa and his rear gunner, Radioman 3rd Class Frank B Wood, as they are forced to face off in battle against the deadly Zero. Not one, but 3 of them. The chances of the relatively slow bomber surviving the clash are extremely slim. There can only be one winner in this one-sided battle, but despite the odds, can the Dauntless prevail?

Thai Fighters vs USA
Outnumbered and against all odds, five Thai Fighter Pilots went into battle against sixteen superior American planes. Despite their bravery and tenacity, it was to be a one-sided combat, with the Thai's being taken down one by one. Yet, in the desperate fight they managed to shoot down one of the Americans. The plane of Henry Minco, the fallen pilot, was found 75 years later by a team that included RTAF Air Chief Marshall Sakpinit Promthep, USAF Major Daniel Jackson, and Mr. Hak Hakanson. In January 2024 the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency is due to excavate the site in the hope of finding and repatriating Minco's remains. This incredible story was brought to us by Major Jackson who reached out to the chan

Life of a Kamikaze
It's April 12th, 1945, and Nine Mitsubishi G4M Betty bombers and their escort of A6M Zero fighters soar over the East China Sea. In the leading bomber, Lieutenant Saburo Dohi puts on his oxygen mask and lies back on his makeshift cot, breathing deeply. His mind is focused on one thing: the new secret weapon held in the bowels of the Betty, a weapon the Japanese hope will change the course of the war. The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka was the chariot of the Thunder Gods. Volunteer pilots who would give everything for Japan. We try to lift the veil on the life of these young pilots. To try and understand their training and their friendships and to explore why they would strive to make the ultimate sacrifice. To find out more on the Thunder Gods check out the great book by Dan King, 'Blossoms From the Sky' which was one of the sources we used for this video. The Ohka was used successfully by Saburo Dohi when he hit the destroyer Mannert L. Abele causing it to split in half and subsequently sink.

Postmen vs SS
It’s September 1st 1939 and war is once again rising in Europe. Germany has started the invasion of Poland and one of it’s first assaults is on the Polish Post office in the free city of Gdansk. 56 Postal workers and supporters are inside bracing themselves for the enemy. They face German SS and police supported by armored cars and artillery. It should be a one sided fight. But the determined resistance of the Poles keeps the Germans at bay for over fourteen hours.

When a Submarine ‘Sank’ a Train
Could it be that a US Submarine was so successful during the Second World War that a submarine crew sank a Japanese train? Well, yes... It’s not like the submarine blew the train from the water…. But what happened is an incredible story of how the crew of the USS Barb, the most successful American submarine of the war, landed men behind enemy lines and completed a textbook act of sabotage, and revolutionized submarine warfare twice in one patrol.

Teenage Sniper
During WWII, hundreds of thousands of women served in the Red Army, including Aliya Moldagulova, an 18-year-old sniper from Kazakhstan. On January 14, 1944, Aliya's bravery and sharpshooting skills came to the fore during a pivotal fight on the Eastern Front. Despite shrapnel injury and a damaged rifle, Aliya continued to eliminate enemy soldiers, even taking on front-line fighting, an unusual move for a sniper. The ultimate objective was to capture the strategically important Nasva railway station to cut off German supply lines.
In a desperate situation, Aliya rallied her fellow soldiers after their leader fell, spearheading the attack into enemy trenches and disabling an enemy machine gun post.

The Ace No One Could Hit
On June 30, 1944, Finnish Flying Knight Ilmari Juutilainen expertly engaged a Soviet P-39. Despite the enemy's attempts to escape, Juutilainen's precise shooting downed the plane, which crashed into a village below. Juutilainen immediately joined his squadron's pursuit of fleeing Airacobras.
The next challenge came from a formation of Yak-9s leading hundreds of Pe-2 bombers, escorted by La-5 fighters. Despite the odds, Juutilainen and his squadron charged into the fray, shooting down several Yaks before turning their attention to the bombers. The enemy defenses forced them off the attack run, causing Juutilainen to engage in a dogfight before the bombers dropped their payloads.
Rejoining the battle, he spotted a new threat: a large formation of Pe-2 bombers, IL-2 ground attackers, and La-5 escorts. Low on fuel, Juutilainen and his team made the risky decision to engage. After a tense dogfight with an evasive La-5, Juutilainen targeted an IL-2 Sturmovik, shooting it down before being pursued by the La-5.
The final confrontation with the La-5 resulted in Juutilainen triumphing once again, utilizing a clever energy trap to bring down the enemy. Returning to base running on fumes, Juutilainen and his squadron remarkably suffered no losses, with Juutilainen himself achieving 6 victories in one day, without a single scratch on his plane from enemy fire.

White Feather vs Cobra
In 1966 Vietnam, U.S. Marine Corps snipers Carlos Hathcock, known as Lông Trắng (The White Feather), and John Burke are on a mission to eliminate a deadly NVA sniper, Cobra, who's been terrorizing their base. After Cobra claims another victim, the Marines set off on a dangerous manhunt, determined to make him their last victim. Hathcock's sharp instincts lead them to a concealed sniper's position, setting them on a trail deeper into the jungle.
The hunt continues into a second day, fraught with uncertainty and risk. Suspicion mounts as they find an unusually clean burrow at the end of the trail - an obvious trap. Hathcock and Burke take a detour, evading the trap and setting up a vantage point over Cobra's hideout. Hathcock spots a flock of birds feeding on rice - a clever warning system set up by Cobra.
Capitalizing on this, Hathcock creates a distraction by throwing a stick at the birds. As the jungle falls silent, Hathcock readies himself, waiting for Cobra to investigate the disturbance. This suspenseful video captures the deadly cat-and-mouse game in the unforgiving jungles of Vietnam.

Pilot's Last Wish to See His Wife
It’s December 9th, 1941. And line of Blenheim Bombers of the roars to life at Butterworth Airfield, Malaysia. At the front is Squadron Leader Arthur “Pongo” Scarf. But while they are still taking off a transmission comes in. “Bandits to the north!” High in the sky dozens of Ki-27 fighter bombers approach in formation. Then more Ki-27s come in for a lower attack and strafe the airfield. All the planes on the ground except one are incapacitated. Incredibly the crew of this lone Blenheim decide to go on with their mission, alone. Despite his injuries Scarf made a landing near to the hospital where his wife was working and got to see her one last time.

WW1 Balloon Buster and the Chinese Balloon
It’s September 12th, 1918 and at the controls of his SPAD S:XIII fighter is 2nd Lieutenant Frank Luke. He’s about to take down his first German observation balloon. The Germans have been spying on the enemy using these Hydrogen filled balloons as a way to get vital information on troop movements.
Frank pulls the trigger. Finally, one of his incendiary bullets detonates within the balloon. The small flame of the explosion grows rapidly, swelling and consuming the highly flammable hydrogen, exploding out of the balloon, and continuing to grow into the air as it chases the plume of leaking gas.
But this is just the start for the Arizona balloon buster. He went on to become an ace in a day, having 17 confirmed victories and receiving the medal of honor. A brave and daring pilot his legacy echoes through history even to today when in 2023 the callsigns for the F-22s that shot down the Chinese balloon were Frank01 and Frank02.

When 1 Pilot Fought 64 Japanese Planes
It's the 3rd of June, 1942, and nine P40B Tomahawk fighters of the South African Air Force 5th Squadron are rushing to the aid of French defenders that are being attacked in a fort by German Stuka’s. It’s a star-studded flight with 3 flying aces in its midst; Distinguished Flying Cross recipient Robin Pare, Cecil Golding, and Louis Botha.
A few kilometers away famed ace Hans-Joachim Marseille and his wingman are on a patrol aboard their Bf 109s when they receive the desperate plea from the Stukas. They don’t need to be told twice, they slam the throttle to full and race to the rescue.
They arrive at a chaotic scene, with allied fighters all over the Stukas, but Marseille is undeterred.
What happens next is an incredible battle of 3 aces versus a German Uber Ace. An incredible feat of skill that cemented Marseilles reputation as the Star of Africa.

Hunting Tigers in Africa
Explosions rock the earth as the men of the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters take cover in their meager trenches.
The Germans have them under fire and just 300 yards away a Panzer squadron in a hull down position fires upon the allied positions.
At the head of the panzer squadron is a fearsome beast. Even its name is whispered by the Allies. It’s a Tiger. Armed with a powerful 88mm gun and incredible armor they are the flagship of the German War Machine.
How is it possible to destroy or even capture such an epic machine? They inflict dread in even the best of tankers, let alone a battalion of infantry with just PIATs at their disposal. In a rush a few men run for an abandoned enemy position. There they find an abandoned Pak 97/38. They heave the gun around to face the oncoming threat and scavenge as much ammunition as they can.
Inside the Tiger the crew are under strict instructions not to let their tank fall into enemy hands. Even going so far to equip Tigers with charges to blow up the tank in the event of capture. So for the allies even taking one out is a colossal undertaking. Let alone capturing a tiger with its fangs and claws intact.
We take you through the events of that day and how exactly the allies managed to get their hands on the peak of Germany’s tank technology at the time.
Thank you very much to the Tank Museum @thetankmuseum for helping us with the script and allowing us to use the photos in this film. Any errors are our own. You can see the legendary Tiger 131 in action: https://tankmuseum.org/events

Ace General
Adolf Galland, was a famous and influential German Luftwaffe general and flying ace who served throughout the Second World War in Europe. He flew 705 combat missions in the Defence of the Reich. Known for his skill and bravery in the air and his gentlemanly behavior on the ground he was well liked and respected by both friend and foe. He had many disagreements with Göring, over the strategy and tactics of the Luftwaffe fighter force. But despite that he became the youngest general of the German armed forces and the General of the Fighters in 1941. He was dismissed from his post in 1945 after he advocated for Goring's replacement which was a dangerous time for Galland. As a way out of his predicament he was given command of a force of Me 262 fighter jets. Galland became one of the pioneers of tactics in the jet age as he and his men flew fighters against the Allied bombing raids. Galland was also known to have recruited to the jet squadron a young pilot called Franz Stigler. The two men become lifelong friends.

Ferry vs Japanese Fleet
It’s 1942, off the coast of Singapore, and a River Steamer commandeered by the British is attacked by Japanese bombers. Captain Thomas Wilkinson of the HMS Li Wo leads his crew in a desperate resistance, and escapes. When the Li Wo continues on its journey through the Bangka strait, their hopes are dashed when they spot a Japanese fleet 10 miles ahead. They could try and lay low and try avoid detection but the small crew on a commandeered boat take an incredibly brave decision. Despite being massively outnumbered and outgunned, they’ll fight.

M26 Pershing vs T34-85
It’s the evening of August 17th, 1950, near the city of Pusan, in South Korea. UN forces have been pushed back from the moment they became involved, going from just south of Seoul to cornered against the sea in Pusan in just a month. The North Koreans are equipped with Soviet T34-85s, which outnumber and outgun the American tanks, leaving the soldiers fighting them with bazookas or no anti-tank weapons at all. Lieutenant Granville George "GG" Sweet leads a four tank platoon of M26 Pershings, which have
been performing well in the defense of Pusan, but is about to face the tank that has been dominating the battlefield in the last month. An urgent message arrives through the radio, "Flash Purple!" incoming enemy armor. Sweet and his crew prepare for combat and engage in a fierce tank battle against the T34-85s. They form a wall across a road and aim straight ahead as the enemy approaches. Fullerton takes his position, when suddenly a T-34 rounds the corner before him.

The One Man Airforce
We originally did this as a short but by popular request we have now remade it as a full film.
It’s January 11, 1944, and over 140 B17’s from the 401st Bomber Group are locked in desperate combat in the skies above Germany. Bf 109s, 110s, and FW 190s swarm all over the American machines. At the head of the formation Lieutenant Colonel Allison C. Brooks can do nothing but encourage his men forward and hope. 44 P-51 Mustangs of the 354th Fighter Group race to the rescue. Lead by Major James H. Howard he spots the battle taking place through the clouds but also a second group of BF 109s far below, he’s evaluating the situation when suddenly a voice shouts over the radio “go down and get them!”
To his complete horror his entire fighter group immediately dives for the Messerschmitts. He tries to order them back but in the confusion only 3 of his fighters abort the run while the rest head straight into combat. How could just 3 of them hold off the Germans? What happens next is an incredible feat of aviation skill by Howard. Brooks later said of Howard’s defense of the B-17s, "For sheer determination and guts, it was the greatest exhibition I've ever seen. It was a case of one lone American against what seemed to be the entire Luftwaffe. He was all over the wing, across and around it. They can't give that boy a big enough award."

MiGs vs Corsairs
And a pair of F4U-4B Corsair’s make their way across a clear North Korean skies. On board the lead plane is Captain Jesse Folmar of the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron number 312, also known as the “Checkerboards”
Folmar scans the shores as the pair fly straight into the mouth of the Taedong river. There has been a reported enemy movement on the south shores of the river mouth. However, Folmar can’t see anything out of the ordinary. That is until they are intercepted by MiG-15s ! Its an incredible story of powerful WW2 fighters vs the latest fighters of the jet age.

When a US Pilot Stole an FW-190
It’s midday on February 9th, 1944, near the harbor of Nice, southern France.
4 Supermarine Spitfires belonging to the 4th squadron of the 52nd Fighter Group circle their targets. One by one they dive, unleashing bombs and a volley of gunfire into the convoy of cargo ships below.
On board of one of these fighters is pilot Robert Anderson Hoover.
Hoover is making a turn when suddenly a single 20mm shell strikes him at the root of the wing. In a blur the wing shears off and his Spitfire twists in an uncontrollable tumble. Hoover hangs on and pulls himself out of the doomed machine.
Captured, Hoover is interred in Stalag Luft I, a prison camp outside Barth, Germany.
When he finally escapes he manages to get to safety by stealing a Luftwaffe FW-190.
It's an incredible story of an amazing pilot and his bid to reach home.

Heroes of 303 Squadron
The 303 Squadron. A legendary outfit made up mainly from Polish aces in exile. Initially frowned upon by the British as undisciplined and lacking skill, the Poles took to their Hawker Hurricanes and became heroes during the battle of Britain. Mirosław Ferić kept a diary of the squadron's exploits, victories and losses. While it's difficult to estimate the exact contribution of every unit into such huge battles as the Battle of Britain. Beyond all question, 303 Squadron was one of the most impactful units of the RAF. Initial wartime reports mention 126 victories by 303 Squadron during the Battle. According to the most recent research they are credited with over 58 verified victories, which still makes them the most efficient aerial unit in the Battle.
