The poor "saint of Calcutta" thought that she had to complete the work of Christ on the cross. This is what the Catholic church told her. This is what every brand of the Christian religion tells its followers. Christ's sacrifice was not enough. It left something undone that the wannabe-saved must complete: personal righteousness. Teresa was so aware of her inadequacy along this line that her inability vexed her soul continually. This is the dark cloud of death hanging over the head of every religionist.
