This is the spot where John H Gregory discovered the first gold lode in Colorado before it was a state or even a territory on May 6,1859. Gold was discovered in the Denver area of Cherry Creek but Gregory knew there was a source. He learned gold mining skills from his Father growing up in Georgia. His first attempt in April of 1859 got stopped by a big snow storm. He went back to a small settlement in the Cherry Creek area of Denver and put together a team. This video shows the monument in honor of the discovery which was called the Gregory Diggings then later Mountain City and is now right on the border of Black Hawk and Central City Colorado. There is a walking museum of buildings that I show the map. The Red Dolly Casino is right next to the little park. This was the start of the Pikes Peak gold rush of 1859. Over 30,000 people came to this area to find their fortune. Please see my other videos for more information or contact me at abrey08@yahoo.com Please like, share and subscribe!
