Daybreak on Bates Hill Central City Colorado 1859 Gold Rush

As the camera pans to the right you will be looking at The Gregory Diggings named after John H Gregory of Georgia who discovered the first gold lode in Colorado on May 6, 1859. The Bates Lode was the second discovery named after Captain William Bates of the US Army who paid Gregory $200 to find the second lode. Word got out and this place was swarming with prospectors.
