11 American Nations Review Episode 14: Secession Part 2

In this episode we are continuing our discussing of the First Secessionists and the 1789 Ratification of the Constitution, focusing on the Yankees attempt to use government to force people into practicing their ideas of freedom and harmony.
Yankees, as we discussed previously, believed that each person was born free- with G-d given rights. But this individual freedom was a gift, one that should not be prioritized at the expense of the community’s freedom. Meaning, that Yankees believed in a balance between individual and corporate freedom. They expected individuals to act as they should- bound by the ethics and morality of their interpretation of the Bible, and for the good of the whole community.
But this idea of promoting their freedom and worldview came as a quasi- religious mandate for them to convert the country. And they would quickly discover this dream could only be realistically achieved by using force.
