“Joseph the Man" is a song about Joseph as a young boy who prayed with faith in a grove of trees and saw God the Father and Jesus Christ; the husband of Emma Hale Smith and a loving father. The martyr with his brother while in the Carthage Illinois jail, by a mob. His mother Lucy Mack Smith tender feelings and experiences after their death. “He lived great, and died great in the eyes of God and his people; and like most of the Lord's anointed in ancient times, has sealed his mission and his works with his own blood; and so has his brother Hyrum. In Life they were not divided, and in death they were not separated!” Elder John Taylor (Doctrine and Covenants 135:3).
