Originally published on YouTube on April 1, 2020 For a long time I have been struggling with finding the right #bushcraft backpack for carrying my basic gear load. Several types of military assaust packs that I have used over the years proved to not be spacious enough even for a day trip let alone for a one or two day #camping trip. I was always having to attach multiple pouches and strap items to my packs, therefore, adding more weight and discomfort. Recently I began searching for a new bushcraft pack online and I found the bushcraft line by Helikon-Tex. The #MatildaPack by Helikon-Tex has completely solved my storage issues for the basic gear that I carry. The pack is very comfortable and constructed with quality materials. I also added two sides pouches, the Essential Kitbag and the E&E pouch, both made by Helikon-Tex. I am extremely happy with the setup. One more item that I wish to have soon is a good quality down top quilt or sleeping bag that is light weight and packs down small enough to store inside the Matilda pack or just under the lid. I want a quilt or bag that will serve as the one single piece of gear that keeps me warm down to 15° F if not below. That would complete the gear items that I consider to be all I need for any situation. I hope you enjoy this gear review with an overnight campout all in one. The weather is warming up and summer is on it's way and that means it's time to pack smarter and lighter when it comes to backpacking, hiking, #camping and various outdoor activities. In this video I #review and test the SOL (Survive Outdoors Longer) Escape Bivvy. On my quest to find a lighter, more packable option for a sleeping bag cover, I found this bivvy online and now it's time to put it to the test. After a brief display, going over a few of the specs and comparing it to the US modular sleep system bivvy, I head to my base camp to give the SOL Escape bivvy it's first initial test. This lightweight bivvy is a perfect option for lightweight backpacking and can be used as an #emergencyshelter. It weighs only 8.5 ounces and is made from 100% ripstop nylon. I found it to feel very durable and the reflective material on the interior proved to keep me very warm with temperatures in the low to mid 40's (F). We visit one of my old camps and discover that the bushcraft bench is completely rotten and bug infested. A mouse makes his presence known before I begin to set up the chair. The setup is pretty simple; make a tripod, tie up the chair with paracord or suspension system of choice by running the cord through the top sewn channel on the fabric, slide a cross pole through the sewn channel and lash it to the tripod. Recently I went camping with a buddy in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. With Spring in full swing this was a great opportunity for me to test out the puffy camping blanket by Get Out Gear. Mountain temperatures can drop quickly due to the level of elevation. On this night the temperature only got down to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I pared the 650 Fill power down blanket with my green patrol bag and gortex bivvy which both are parts of the Military Modular Sleep System. Adding the Get Out Gear down puffy blanket to the inside of the patrol bag really increased the amount of insulation and warmth. Needless to say, I was a little too warm for temperatures in the 50's. This down puffy blanket is ideal for the ability to add that extra layer of insulation when needed. It is great to carry when camping, backpacking, hiking and any outdoor activities because it packs down super small in its stuff sack. I highly recommend this blanket. This is the first ever survival shovel I've ever had my hands on other than the basic folding military E-tool. I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with the Sharvol survival Shovel multitool. My Wife got me this cot for my birthday. So, I figured I'd do a review on it. Overall, this isn't a bad camping cot. It just takes a little muscle to set it up. How long will it hold up?
