Thursday morning, June 4, 2020 - New York City - The Black Lives Matter movement continues to gain momentum across the globe, as protesters take to the street to demonstrate outrage in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.

This past weekend of protests that descended into chaos and widespread looting have New York businesses scrambling to protect their property. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and non-essential business closures, businesses have been left more vulnerable than ever given the recent vandalism and theft.

Store fronts have been boarded up and merchandise has been removed and sent back to warehouses.

NYC VIBE witnessed first hand some businesses that have even employed armed guards to keep watch of their properties while Saks Fifth Avenue had their flagship store wrapped in razor wire. While some damage from rioting could be typically covered by insurance, many affected businesses do not have that policy and will have a hard time trying to recover.

NYC has extended the 8 PM curfew through Sunday which leads into Monday, the first phase in returning to work - with hundreds of thousands expected to head to their offices, shops, restaurants and places of business.
