Hello everyone. In today's Bible study we take a look at the bottomless pit.

The what?!!! The bottomless pit.

You may say, that place is real? Of course it is according to God who created it.

Why in the world would God create a place called the bottomless pit? God created the bottomless pit as a prison to house extremely wicked demons who attempted to pollute the gene pool of humanity over in Genesis 6 prior to the flood of Noah.

Wait, what?!!! I don't have time to get into the Genesis 6 issue however I can tell you that both Peter and Jude describes the events that led up to the flood and what these fallen angels did that caused God to lock them in this prison called the bottomless pit.

Where then according to the scriptures is this place, the bottomless pit located? According to the scriptures over in the book of Ezekiel, the pit is located beneath the earth.

The Lord Himself tells us that that's where He moved the garden of Eden, below the earth.

Wait, what?!!! God moved the Garden of Eden and placed it beneath the earth in a place called the bottomless pit? No, that's not what I said. What God did according to Ezekiel was moved the Garden of Eden to below the earth's surface then called it paradise.

It was located across this fixed gulf from a place called Hades, the place where unbelieving sinners go after they die physically.

Wait, what?!!! Yes, my friend, this was told to us by the Lord Jesus Himself when He gave us the story of Lazarus and the rich man in Luke chapter 16.
Lazarus went to paradise while the rich man went to the place called torment.

The bottomless pit is also beneath the earth. We find references to this in the book of Revelation in chapters 9, 11, 17, and 20. Here is one quote from chapter 9 when the angel blew the fifth trumpet.

Revelation 9:1-6
Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit
Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.
Did you notice that the angel that was given the key came from heaven above to the earth beneath to open the bottomless pit? Did you also notice that when the demons came out of the pit that they ascended from beneath the earth?

If what God describes to us in Revelation 9 is true, where is the location of this bottomless pit? Beneath the earth.

Friend, you do not want to be alive on the earth when God opens this pit. People will attempt to commit suicide and will not be allow to die according to God. What a tragedy!

You may be asking the question, why would God do and allow such a thing? Because God is merciful. Wait, What?!!! Because He is merciful? But He is burning everything, it is He who sends the meteor, it is He who poisons the drinking water, it is He who is blotting out the light.

Well not exactly. God only does this to one third of everything, not everything. What should God have done? The LORD God in His holiness have declared that the soul that sin, it shall die! The Lord in His righteousness and justice should have burned everything, killed everything in the seas, destroyed all shipping vessels, poisoned everything, taken away all the light, and allowed the demons to kill everyone not just torment them.

Yet God showed mercy, patience, kindness, and goodness by allowing some to live, some to eat, some to be clothed, some to have shelter when He should have killed everyone and done none of the other things.

Do you understand that? God is a Savior yet God is holy, righteous, just, and true! This is what the LORD God declares through the prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah 48:22 ”There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”
Isaiah 57:21 ”There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”

Today's study is 1 hour and 28 minutes in duration. I have broken it into five segments. This is segment 3 of 5 titled God gives us the location of Hades and the bottomless pit. Part 3
