HEMMER: “Good morning, I’m Bill Hemmer. Trump and Musk outlining the administration’s massive overhaul of a government as they push to carry out the president’s goals of cutting waste and streamlining the bloated bureaucracy out of D.C.. And they gave Sean some remarkable insights.”
[Clip starts]
Trump: “Elon called me. He said, ‘You know, they’re trying to drive us apart.’ I said, ‘Absolutely.’ You know, they said we have breaking news. Donald Trump has ceded control of the presidency to Elon Musk. President Musk will be attending a cabinet meeting tonight at 8 o’clock.”
Musk: “Yeah.” (Laughter)
Trump: “And I say, ‘It’s just so obvious. They are so bad at it. (...) I get 98 percent bad publicity. I could do outside of you —
Musk: “Yeah.”
Trump: “— and a few of your very good friends —
Musk: “Right.”
Trump: “— it’s like the craziest thing. But you know what I have learned, Elon? The people are smart. They get it.”
Musk: “Yeah. They do, actually.”
Trump: “They get it.”
(...)
Musk: “I guess we must be over the target or doing something right you know if like — they wouldn’t be complaining so much if they — we weren’t doing something useful. (...) I think what we’re seeing here is the sort of the thrashing of the bureaucracy as we try to restore democracy and the will of the people.”
(...)
Hannity: “How much do you believe, Elon, you’ve identified in — in waste fraud, abuse, corruption now and —
Musk: “Well —“
Hannity: “— how much do you anticipate you will?”
Musk: “Sure. Well, the — I — I think —“
Trump: “One percent. No, because —
Musk: “Yeah.”
Trump: “— it’s so massive. It’s — this is —“
Musk: “Yeah, exactly.”
Trump: “— huge money. Huge money.” [crosstalk]
Hannity: “So what we found out is one percent?”
Musk: “Well, we’ve just gotten started.”
Trump: “As — as good as they are they’re not going to find some contract that was crooked — you know crooked as hell and I mean there’s going to be so much it isn’t that. But what is that I think he’s going to find a trillion dollars.”
Musk: “Yeah, I think so.”
Trump: “But I think it’s a very small percentage compared to what it is. (...) Social Security won’t be touched other than —“
Hannity: “Won’t be touched.”
Trump: “— this fraud or something we’re going to find it’s going to be strengthened, but won’t be touched. Medicare, Medicaid None of that stuff is going to be touched.”
Hannity: “Nothing. I want you to —“
Trump: “We don’t have to. Now if there are illegal migrants in the system we’re going to get them out of the system and all of that fraud. But it’s not going to be touched.”
(...)
Musk: “In order to save taxpayer money it comes down to two things, competence and caring. And — and when — when president was shown the outrageous bill for the new Air Force One and — and then negotiated it down if he — if the president had not applied competence and caring the price would have been 50 percent higher, literally 50 percent higher. The president cared, the president was competent the price was not 50 percent higher as a result.”
(...)
Trump: “That’s caring. No, it’s not even the art of the deal, it’s caring.”
Musk: “It’s all about competence and caring.”
Trump: “He uses the word it’s caring.”
Musk: “Yeah.”
Trump: “It’s — it’s a certain competence, but I think it’s more caring.” [crosstalk]
Musk: “You know, if — if you — actually if you add either ingredient, either competence or caring, you’ll get a better outcome. (...) And the problem is that the American taxpayers have been getting a terrible deal because look at the last administration. Can you — can anyone — can any reasonable person say that last administration was either competent or caring?”
[Clip ends]
PERINO: “And Trey Gowdy hosts ‘Sunday Night in America,’ let’s get your reaction to a lot of that interview last night.”
GOWDY: “Yeah. I do not understand, Dana, the argument against eliminating, identifying waste, fraud, abuse, duplication. I mean lawyers are trained to try to understand the other side of the argument. What is the argument for perpetuating fraud, sending Social Security benefits to someone who’s been dead for 10 years? I — I don’t know the argument in favor of that. I do know this, we have created a fourth Branch of government, the administrative Branch, and right now that is all the left controls. They don’t have the House, they don’t have the Supreme Court, they don’t have Congress. So all they have is this administrative Branch and that is what they are clinging to. But — but — but I defy anyone to tell me identifying waste, fraud, abuse, duplication how is that a bad thing?”
