"Funeral of Colonel Mikhail Tolstykh, the commander of the Somali Battalion, was held on February 10. Here is the video report from the ceremony by American war correspondent Russell Bentley.
Tens of thousands people from the capital and other cities of the Republic brought flowers to honor the legendary commander. The ceremony was held in the building of the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. People chanted “Thank you!” and “We will never forget, we will never forgive!”.
“I am from Putilovka which is being shelled even now. And he was the one who defended us. He and Motorola… This is why I am in such a grief”, - said a woman living in Donetsk who came to attend the mourning ceremony.
It will be recalled that three days of mourning were declared in the Republic after the tragic death of Battalion Commander Givi. Colonel Mikhail Tolstykh was buried in the Donetskoe Morye (Donetsk Sea) Cemetery in the Leninsky District of Donetsk beside Arseny Pavlov (Motorola), also killed as a result of an act of sabotage in October 2016.
