Rev 3:8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Rev 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Rev 3:13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

The Church of Philadelphia is located in the Turkish city of Alasehir, (God’s City) which is built on the site of the ancient city of Philadelphia.

It was destroyed by an earthquake in AD 17.

The Church of St John and the St Jean Church are the key remaining Christian sites in the city.

Rev 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

What is the Key of David?

Isa 22:20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

Isa 22:21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

Isa 22:22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

Isa 22:23 And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.

Eliakim means “whom God will raise up” or “the resurrection of God” both apply to Jesus

Eliakim had the key to David’s throne room, or to the King

Jesus has the Key to the Father, no one get’s to the Father but by Jesus

Jesus was telling them He is the Door

Rev 3:8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

He is explaining that anything or anyone offering an alternative to Truth is a thief

The intent of the thief is to steal and in this case your salvation

False doctrine is a thief

Erroneous doctrine is a thief

Anything outside of faith is a thief

Jesus told them although there was no correction and they knew Him

They only had a little strength even though they were a model church

Strength comes from the Word

They knew His Word and used it,

or kept it in the face of adversity

Ps 119:28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.

Faith in His Name

Not denied His Name

A Name is who you are,

It is how people know you

When I think of the name Ford, I think of Cars

They upheld His names

Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Rapha, El Shaddai and more

They were a people of faith by experience

An example

Acts 3:16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Peter and John knew His name

Phil 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Phil 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Phil 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

This is the thief referred to in John 10.10

They persecuted the church, said they were wrong

They did not know Him

Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Differing opinions on this

Dake says it is not the great Tribulation but during their time

It seems to me it is the Great tribulation since ALL the world is affected

The key is we are kept from it, whenever it is,

But again I am of the opinion it is the coming tribulation after the rapture

He states, “Because”

They will be protected because they kept the word of His patience

Something todays church is not accustomed to, waiting…

Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. (promises)

Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

Patience is waiting

It is based on the promise

Faith in the promise

Anticipation of the fulfillment

Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Rom 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

We have access into this grace of salvation now by faith

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

Rom 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Jas 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Jas 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Jas 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Heb 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Heb 6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

Heb 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Heb 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Peter told us patience must be added to faith to know Him

The Philadelphian Church knew Him

2Pet 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

2Pet 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

2Pet 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

2Pet 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Faithful is patient
Faithful is consistent even in trial or temptation
Or patient in steadfastness
Faith – full or full of faith to believe even though we don’t yet see
Philadelphia was the church exercising faith and patience
The patient faith filled church!

Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

If it were not possible to lose your salvation

Why did He tell the church this? Why waste breath and space to put it in?

Crowns,

There are many crowns mentioned in the Bible

It does not specify which one here is being referred to

I would submit it is the Crown of Life

Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Eternal Life is knowing Jesus intimately and personally

God reveals His names to us
Jehovah Jireh my provider
Jehovah Rapha my healer
El Shaddai my multi faceted God more than enough!
In heaven we know His new name, Lord of all

Ps 91:14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

The names of God
Each reveal Him
This is the final revelation
Having known Him

When there is lack or unbelief
We do not know Him
When we are sick we do not yet know Him
When we are broke or without we do not yet know Him
Seek Him
Get to know His name
His name is above every name or problems name in earth heaven and under the earth!

We have been putting the cart before the horse

Seeking the benefits and things of God

Instead of seeking a relationship of knowing Him

We have been preaching a selfish Gospel
Saved from wrath
Go to Heaven
Be Healed
Every need met
These are all benefits for self
He is actually calling you to KNOW Him
To fellowship with him
To a love relationship with Him

All those other things are in Him

Ps 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Ps 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Ps 103:4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

Ps 103:5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Rev 3:13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Seek Him while He may be found saints…

Get to know Him

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
