Scott: “Joe, it’s kind of a perfect storm of really everything, dry conditions, high winds, and a lot of fuel to feed those fires.”
CONCHA: “Absolutely. This was something that Gavin Newsom, the governor, Karen Bass the mayor of Los Angeles should have been prepared for because this was something that many people were warning could happen, this imperfect storm that you just described. The fallout from this, Jon, will be massive perhaps not seen on the scale we have ever seen in modern American politics. To that point, Democrats may no longer be the dominant party in power in California moving forward. This could impact the party nationwide. This is already a Democratic Party that just lost the White House in convincing fashion lost the Senate, couldn’t take back the House, a solid majority of U.S. states are now run by Republican governors, the Supreme Court is six — three conservative. This is a rudderless party right now with no clear leader. And when you see these images on your screen like you have been seeing for the past week, this is something that Californians and we’re talking about liberals, celebrities are saying this did not have to happen if we had a governor that was prepared, that took water from the north in terms of snowmelt, in terms of rain, and brought it down to the south into reservoirs that are currently empty instead emptying them out into the Pacific Ocean, should have cleared those forests, did what Finland had done in terms of fixing their wildfire problem. This could have been mitigated, they know this could have been prevented, it was not. This is going to - as a result Democrats will pay going forward because this is not a week story, a two-week story, this is a generational story because people lost their homes, thousands of them and many may not get them back. There could be insurance crises going on in California in terms of who is going to pay for what. And then there’s going to be all these zoning problems, red tape that we see in states like California where people may end up leaving the state altogether, they already are more than any other state in the country. What happens from here? The Democratic Party completely in disarray, they have no clear leader right now, especially in California where many are calling for Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass to resign immediately.”
