Learn how to make basic white sandwich bread from scratch using a bread machine! This recipe combines the convenience of a bread machine for mixing and proofing, followed by second proofing and baking in the oven. Perfect for beginners and bread lovers alike, this homemade sandwich bread is soft, fluffy, and perfect for any sandwich!

Basic White Bread

10 oz hot water
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp salt
4 cups flour
2 tbsp sugar
5 tsp yeast
3 tbsp gluten (Vital Wheat)
1 tsp dough enhancer
3 tbsp powdered dry milk

Proof the Yeast by adding yeast to the warm water (95° to 100°F) with 2 tbsp sugar, bubbles should form in less than 10 minutes if it does not bubble, you should replace the yeast.

Once the yeast is proofed add it to the bread maker pan, than add the oil, then in order: flour, wheat gluten, dough Enhancer, dry milk, then last, the salt.

Set your bread maker to the dough cycle, when the bread maker cycle ends turn dough out onto floured board. Remove the paddle and split into 2 parts and place into greased bread pans.

Let the dough rise until it has doubled in size while covered on top of warm oven.

For loaves bake at 400° F for 20 to 25 minutes or buns 14 to 18 minutes.
