And then God said, let there be farts! And thus the universe was born. This hilarious 2-minute short film is now online for everyone to enjoy. Godfart is the bonkers creation of comedy filmmaker Michael Langan. He's be whipping up films, commercials, music videos and more but this takes the cake. From the universe of Doxology comes Godfart, the epic creation myth that traces the origins of everything to God's quest for breakfast. Russel Hodgkinson stars as God - before he could make the universe, he needed something to eat first. And the rest is history... Literally. Even though this may seem like a simple concept to pull off, it's not as easy as it looks. To find the right guy for the role of God, to make it all seem plausible and hilarious, and to bring it together with that big bang finale – as the Italians say, that's amore. Plug your nose & enjoy.

Shaz Khan Stars as a MMA Fighter in 'The Martial Artist' Film Trailer
By Alex Billington
The Martial Artist Trailer
"Fighting is not about a system... It is working in harmony with nature's laws – to express who you really are." Um, sure? I guess so? Odysseus Entertainment has revealed the official trailer for a movie called The Martial Artist, starring and directed by Pakistani-American actor Shaz Khan. Yet another exceptionally generic film about a MMA fighter and how hard it is to be successful in this sport. An MMA fighter destined for greatness must face his biggest rival yet: himself. Shaz Khan stars as Ibby "The Prince" Bakran, a fighter who is about to achieve greatness when he's offered a deal by a major promoter. As his star begins to fade, he points the finger at everyone but himself, becoming withdrawn and puling away from his family who never wanted him to fight. So he returns to Pakistan to "find what he's lost." The cast also includes Sanam Saeed, Babar Peerzada, Thesa Loving, Gregory Sporleder, and Faran Tahir. This looks so cheesy and over-the-top, every line of dialogue and every shot is so cliche. Meh. I hope the fights are cool at least?

Official US Trailer for 'Eat the Night' Crime Thriller + MMORPG Story
By Alex Billington
Eat the Night Trailer
"Why are you doing that? Inevitably, it will backfire. Altered Innocence has revealed an official trailer for Eat the Night, a French crime thriller from the filmmaking duo Caroline Poggi & Jonathan Vinel. This one first premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year in the Directors' Fortnight section, and it played at the London Film Fest. The newest vision from Caroline Poggi & Jonathan Vinel (known for Jessica Forever) is a bittersweet apocalyptic love story with a modern MMORPG twist. Young drug dealer Pablo and his sister Appoline bond over an online role playing game called Darknoon (which looks quite similar to World of Warcraft but isn't the same). Suddenly Pablo falls for the mysterious Night, neglecting his sister and the game. While Appoline finishes the game, Pablo and Night become embroiled in a dangerous gang conflict, upending their reality. Starring Théo Cholbi & Lila Gueneau as Pablo & Apolline, with Erwan Kepoa Falé as Night, Mathieu Perotto, Eddy Suiveng, and Kevin Bago. An interesting intertwining of the video game and the real world, but is the point that gaming is never really as bad as actual drug dealing?

Indie Horror Film 'When It Rains in L.A.' Trailer Starring Monroe Cline
By Alex Billington
When It Rains in LA Trailer
"There is saying: 'when it rains in LA, disaster follows...'" Gravitas Ventures has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror film titled When It Rains in L.A., from filmmaker David M. Parks. Not to be confused with any other film that is about the rare time when it rains in Los Angeles. The horror film follows the story of an Eastern European girl who escapes the horror of losing her sugar daddy boyfriend in her own country. She travels to Los Angeles for a vacation with friends, where she faces the reckoning of the trauma she left behind... and the rain she unearthed coming there. This sounds like a drama about trauma but it's actually a slasher horror film about a masked murderer coming after her. Huh? Why? Is he seeking vengeance because she escaped from this sugar daddy? This is all so weird. When It Rains in LA stars Monroe Cline, Leslie Stratton, Mike Ferguson, Eric Roberts, Felix Merback, Natasha Stricklin, and LeeAnne Bauer. The funniest part about this is how fake the rain looks and yet it's needed for so many scenes in the film. Ha.

Art Residency Comedy 'Not an Artist' Trailer with Haley Joel Osment
By Alex Billington
Not an Artist Trailer
"Some paintings aren't curious enough for me to go 'what's that?' This doesn't have that quality..." Ha ha! Utopia has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy called Not an Artist, the second feature from filmmakers Alexi Pappas & Jeremy Teicher. This first premiered at the 2023 Austin Film Festival and will be on VOD in early 2025 to enjoy. A comedy making fun of artist residency programs! Zing! Pappas (A young woman) is accepted into a residency program created by the wealthy enigmatic benefactor known as "The Abbott" (RZA) for high-potential artists suffering from creative constipation. She's working on her art until her father unexpectedly shows up and disrupts the entire retreat. The indie comedy stars Matt Walsh (who co-wrote the script) with Ciara Bravo, Haley Joel Osment, "RZA", Cleopatra Coleman, Rosalind Chao, Betsy Sodaro, and Dan Bakkedahl. This reminds me of the quirky indies they used to make like Running with Scissors and Art School Confidential, and Matt Walsh looks like the funniest part about it. 🎨

Intense Trailer for 'Warfare' Movie from Alex Garland & Ray Mendoza
By Alex Billington
Warfare Trailer
"Coming to you, or you coming to us?" A24 has unveiled the official trailer for a war movie called simply Warfare, the latest project (co-)directed by Alex Garland following his big action movie Civil War earlier this year. Warfare is actually co-directed by Alex Garland and the real life Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, telling his own stories (from memory) of what it was like to be there. A member of SEAL Team 5, Mendoza came to partner with Garland on Warfare after serving as his military supervisor on Civil War. The huge ensemble cast features: D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, Michael Gandolfini, with Joesph Quinn and Charles Melton. This looks like Black Hawk Down and Come and See – a brutally honest depiction of how war is hell and how terrible it is. Just pure war movie intensity from start to finish. I'm a big fan of Will Poulter and I'm glad to see him in this - will be watching.

Promo Featurette on Leigh Whannell's 'Wolf Man' & New Era of Terror
By Alex Billington
Wolf Man Featurette
"This film is my tribute to the 80s movies I loved growing up." Universal has unveiled a 2-minute making of featurette for Leigh Whannell's new Wolf Man movie, landing in theaters in January 2025. Just around the corner! Produced by Blumhouse, this a fresh update on the classic furry Universal Monster originally invented in the 1941 film The Wolf Man. "What if someone you loved became something else?" What would you do? A man must save himself and his family when they are stalked, terrorized, and haunted by a deadly werewolf at night – but something else is going on with him, too. Christopher Abbott co-stars with Julia Garner, plus Sam Jaeger, Matilda Firth, Ben Prendergast, and Benedict Hardie. This promo video features Leigh and his cinematographer Stefan Duscio discussing making the movie, including his biggest horror inspirations for it – The Fly and The Thing. They also hype up the slick cinematography and intense sound design: "I just wanted it to be an aural assault." Yep this is looking so damn good. Can't wait to watch.

Stylish Action Crime Thriller 'The Devil & the Daylong Brothers' Trailer
By Alex Billington
The Devil and the Daylong Brothers
"He stole what's mine... I'm stealing it back." Quiver Distribution has unveiled an official trailer for an indie Southern Gothic epic musical movie called The Devil and the Daylong Brothers, made by filmmaker Brandon McCormick as his first real feature. Set in the kudzu-choked backwaters of the American South, it follows three brothers on a blood-soaked, musical quest for revenge against their own father, who sold their souls to the Devil before they were born. The Daylong Brothers are on a quest to reclaim their souls, sold to the Devil by their dad. When the Devil's broker offers them a deal in exchange for their father's whereabouts they hunt the wicked across the South. Starring Brendan Bradley, Nican Robinson, Jordon Bolden, Rainey Qualley, and Keith Carradine. With original music & songs from producer / composer Nicholas Kirk of Whitestone Pictures, and songs mixed by Michael Brauer. A Southern Gothic gritty crime musical?! Crazy cool concept. And the cinematography in it looks good - knocks it up a few notches. Get a look below.

Another Action-Packed 'Captain America: Brave New World' Promo
By Alex Billington
Captain America: Brave New World Special Look
"What if it's a trap?" Indeed what if it is? Marvel has revealed another new 60-second promo trailer for the MCU sequel Captain America: Brave New World - hitting theaters February 14th, 2025 in exactly two months. Almost time! From director Julius Onah comes the next Captain America evolution – Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson, who has taken over as the new Cap from Steve Rogers after he retired at the end of the Avengers movies. Brave New World picks up with Harrison Ford as the US president, with the power dynamics in the world changing (a meta reference for sure). After an attack, Cap is asked to join the military - but he ends up in the middle of another international incident. The conspiracy noir side of this is the best part – but they're downplaying it now. The impressive cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, Danny Ramirez as a young Falcon, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore; plus an appearance by a Red Hulk, played by Harrison Ford. This looks like it might be entertaining, but it also seems like yet another generic Marvel movie and that's not so exciting anymore.

Final Trailer for RaMell Ross' 'Nickel Boys' - Now Showing in Theaters
By Alex Billington
Nickel Boys Trailer #2
"It's now or never." MGM + Orion have unveiled the second & final trailer for the film Nickel Boys, which has started playing in select US theaters now. This film is a modern masterpiece and will be on my Top 10 of the year, along with many others. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel from Colson Whitehead, Nickel Boys chronicles the powerful friendship between two African American men navigating the harrowing trials of reform school together in Florida. Nickel Boys stars Ethan Herisse as Elwood, Brandon Wilson as Turner, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs, & Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. It's presented mainly from the POV of the two main characters, which gives it an especially distinct look and feel. Reviews add: "By the time the credits roll, Ross will have made a lasting & unique impression of heartbreak on the souls of all who watch his film—precisely the cinematic treatment that Whitehead's novel required." I had a chance to watch this film and it's exceptional - it is so powerful, a vibrant story of friendship and tenacity. The cinematography is astounding, it really does invent a new cinema language with everything it shows on this journey of these two young Black men. A must see now that it's playing in theaters - don't miss this one.

Watch: 'Space Plug' Sci-Fi Short About a Boy Raised by Flabby Aliens
By Alex Billington
Space Plug Sci-Fi Short Film
This is the kind of super strange, clever sci-fi cinema we can always use more of nowadays. Space Plug is a fascinating, weird, funny little short film presented in B&W by UK filmmaker Marcus Anthony Thomas. It was made as part of a Disney Imagine UK scheme in partnership with the NFTS in London. Now available online to watch if you're curious - and it's only 14 minutes long. Every sci-fi nerd needs to watch this just to see something super creative and original. "A baby human is raised in a stimulant free room that looks out into the vastness of space, and more specifically at a big white, blackhole that sucks in stars like a plughole. A Space Plug. With only fluid-filled beings providing them sustenance and company, the human grows to become increasingly restricted by their surroundings and so sets about looking for a way out. Searching for a life in the infinite beyond... in the Space Plug." This is way more wacky and weird than expected, with the flabby alien things being especially insane. It's about this kid having "everything that they need but nothing they want." With Anthony J Abraham, Iniki Mariano, Benjamin Atori, and Michael Fianko. Enjoy.

First Trailer for French Action Comedy 'The Gardener' Featuring JCVD
By Alex Billington
The Gardener Trailer
"I don't understand. It must be a gardener's thing." Prime Video France has revealed the first official trailer for an action comedy called The Gardener, or Le Jardinier in French. This is ready for a debut in France streaming on PV in January, though strangely not worldwide - only in France with no US release confirmed or set yet. Even though we all thought JCVD had retired from acting, especially from any action movies, he continues to appear in movies all the time and take on action roles anyway. The movie stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Léo, an enigmatic gardener whose skills extend far beyond landscape maintenance. The story draws viewers into a murky affair of political elimination orchestrated by high level government. Serge holds a state secret. He, his family, and his gardener Leo appear on a government death list. They attempt to devise a plan to stay alive. The cast includes Michaël Youn, Nawell Madani, Carla Poquin, and rapper Kaaris. This looks as dumb as it sounds, with cheesy action and a derivative story we've seen often before.

Scout Taylor-Compton (born Desariee Starr Compton; February 21, 1989) is an American actress. She has frequently worked in the horror genre, most notably as Laurie Strode in the 2007 remake of Halloween and its 2009 sequel.[1] Outside of horror, she portrayed musician Lita Ford in the biographical drama film The Runaways (2010).

Early life
Taylor-Compton was born Desariee Starr Compton, on February 21, 1989, in Long Beach, California.[2] Her mother is Mexican.[3] Her father is a mortician.[4] Taylor-Compton says she "grew up in that whole horror genre and visiting my dad at the mortuary. I have no problem with that stuff. Whether it was a coffin or my dad bringing his work home."

Career
In 1998, Taylor-Compton began her acting career with an appearance in the film A.W.O.L. with David Morse, and later in the short film Thursday Afternoon. She went on to have small roles in both television and film including Ally McBeal, ER, Frasier, The Guardian and The Division. She appeared in several student films, commercials for Fuji Film and the Disney Cruise Line, and various skits on The Jay Leno Show.[citation needed] In November 2000, Taylor-Compton made her stage debut as the title character in a production of Annie Warbucks at The Grove Theatre in Upland, California, and a stage production of Footloose at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center.

In 2001, she had a recurring role as Clara Forrester, the younger sister of Dean Forrester (Jared Padalecki) in the television series Gilmore Girls, appearing in a total of four episodes until 2004. Taylor-Compton was nominated for "Best Performance in a TV Series – Recurring Young Actress" for her portrayal of Clara.[5] She made a comedic appearance in the film Four Fingers of the Dragon (2003) playing herself auditioning for a role in a fictional Kung Fu film. In 2004, she appeared in the teen comedy, Sleepover, her first large Hollywood film role. The cast of the film was nominated for "Best Performance in a Feature Film – Young Ensemble Cast" at the Young Artists Award.

In 2005, she was briefly considered a missing person when her family had been unable to contact her for approximately two weeks. She was discovered to be alive and healthy on August 25, 2005, and had reportedly been in the company of an acquaintance during her absence.[6]

Following Sleepover, she appeared in numerous television series including Hidden Howie, Unfabulous (2 episodes), Cold Case, That's So Raven, Charmed (appearing in 8 episodes between 2000 and 2006 as various Fairies), and Without a Trace (in which she portrayed a runaway teenager).

In 2007, Taylor-Compton joined the cast of ABC's Friday Night Live. The same year, she starred in the drama Tomorrow is Today and the horror film Wicked Little Things. Tomorrow is Today features Taylor-Compton as Julie Peterson, a girl who saves the life of and befriends a hapless drifter. The film won over six awards at various festivals which included the California Independent Film Festival, the Garden State Film Festival, Method Fest Independent Film Festival, and the Rhode Island International Film Festival. She won "Best Actress" for her performance in the film at the Method Fest Independent Film Festival.[citation needed] Wicked Little Things was one of the films featured in After Dark's 8 Films to Die For and saw Taylor-Compton star as Sarah Tunny. Following these films, she appeared in Standoff and Close to Home.

In 2007, Taylor-Compton appeared in the film An American Crime which told the true story of suburban housewife Gertrude Baniszewski, who had kept a teenage girl locked in the basement of her Indianapolis home in 1965. Taylor-Compton then returned to the horror genre as Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's remake of the classic Halloween. She endured a long audition process, but as director Zombie explains, "Scout was my first choice. There was just something about her; she had a genuine quality. She didn't seem actor-y."[7]

Taylor-Compton at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con
She starred in the television movie Love's Unfolding Dream, which premiered on November 24, 2007, and in the horror film April Fool's Day, a remake of the 1986 film, filmed in North Carolina, that had a DVD release of March 25, 2008.[8] Taylor-Compton explained at the time on the starring in the role of Torrance: "I'll just be playing another wholesome 'good girl' that screams a lot."[3] She also made another horror film, the 2009 film Life Blood, in which she had a cameo as Carrie Lain.

However, in an interview conducted in July 2007, Taylor-Compton did report that after completing April Fool's Day she wanted to stay away from roles in the horror genre for her next film projects.[9] Although she has received many horror film scripts, she believes that she "need[s] to move on from horror. Just drift away a little bit and do something else so I don't get stuck in that" and although she "love[s] doing horror films" and are her "favorite", she'd "like to do other stuff in between."[10] She has recently been influenced by the career of Scarlett Johansson, wanting to choose scripts and roles based on personal interest as she views Johansson does. Taylor-Compton went on to explain, "That's what I kind of want to do. I love just being passionate about something rather than just caring about the money or who's in the movie."[11] In 2009, Taylor-Compton starred alongside Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci in Love Ranch. Then she appeared in the film Obsessed alongside Beyoncé Knowles. Taylor-Compton reprised her role as Laurie Strode in Halloween II (2009), a sequel to Rob Zombie's 2007 film.

In 2010, she appeared in The Runaways, where she played Lita Ford, alongside Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and Stella Maeve.

On April 2, 2024, it was announced by Deadline Hollywood that Taylor-Compton's directorial debut Bring the Law had wrapped production, with its script written by Josh Ridgway from a story treatment by Daniel Figueirido.[12] The film is produced by Daemon Hillin and Carolina Brasil, and its cast includes Mickey Rourke, Peter Facinelli, Nicky Wheelan, Brendan Fehr, Leah Pipes, and Taylor-Compton's Halloween co-star Danielle Harris.

Other work
In 2001, Taylor-Compton provided voice overs for I Am Sam, and continued with voice over work with appearances in The Core (2003) and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004). The following year, she provided voice over work for the teen hero comedy Sky High. She sang the theme song "Jet Set" for the film Chicken Night (2001).[13] In 2002, Taylor-Compton appeared briefly in the Will Smith music video for "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)" for the Men in Black II soundtrack. She appeared in the music video for "Sweet Valentine" by the band Born the Sky in 2007.[14]

In 2003, Taylor-Compton took vocal lessons with Diane Gillespie and Vocal Power Institute, along with guitar, drums and keyboard lessons, and joined a theatre group called "Shenanigans," where she performed and took weekly tap and jazz lessons.[13] She attended the Hollywood Pop Academy for additional vocal training.[15]

In 2007, Taylor-Compton released her debut rock/pop album,[citation needed] in which she sang and played drums. She has cited Cyndi Lauper, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Kelly Osbourne and Green Day as her musical influences.[11] She worked with ERA Productions and punk-pop singer Vitamin C. While on the set filming Halloween (2007), Taylor-Compton received "a few pointers" about a music career from director Rob Zombie, who had also fronted the band White Zombie.[10] She has stated that singing is a side project and "is just a little talent that I have on the side, and if it does something then I'll do that, but I'm not gonna give up acting."[16]

In 2011, she played in a music clip for a cover of Adele's song "Someone like You" by Tony Oller along with Lucas Till.[17]

On October 31, 2021, Taylor-Compton and Danielle Harris launched a podcast called Talk Scary to Me, in which they discuss the horror industry alongside their personal lives.[18][19] In 2023, the podcast was added to Bloody Disgusting's podcast network, Bloody FM.[20]

In 2022, she appeared in metalcore band Ice Nine Kills' music video for their song "The Shower Scene", based on the 1960 film Psycho.

In 2023, she voiced Julie Crawford in the Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game, as well as performing motion capture for all female victims.

Personal life
As a teenager, Taylor-Compton dated Andy Biersack from Black Veil Brides, who composed the song "The Mortician's Daughter" about her.[7] On May 5, 2024 she married actor Tom O'Connell.[21]

Christina Sesma directed the R-rated film, which was written by Chad Law and Josh Ridghway. The cast includes Callum McGowan (The Librarians), Jon Seda (La Brea), and Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned).

This on-the-edge-of-your-seat shark thriller opens in select theaters and arrives on Digital and On Demand on January 24, 2025, from Saban Films. Are you looking for more shark movies? You can find them here.

He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.

The film is directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore from a script by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton. The film stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, with Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford.

Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters on February 14th, 2025.
Regular readers of Flickering Myth will know we’re about to enter the world of indie film with our collaboration with Shepka Productions on the gothic horror film The Baby in the Basket (pre-order now on Amazon!), but first up from Shepka is the gritty crime thriller Dead Before They Wake, which has just unveiled its first trailer via Coming Soon.

Directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane, the film stars Shepka alongside Grace Cordell (Cara), Manjot Sumal (The Last Bus), Patrick Bergin (Sleeping with the Enemy), Kareem Nasif and Doctor Who legend Sylvester McCoy and also features a score by Oscar-winner Joseph Renzetti (The Buddy Holly Story, Child’s Play); check out the trailer below…

Alex dwells in a caravan by day and mans the door of a city club by night. One evening he is approached by the mysterious Evan, a retired lawyer who offers him £20,000 on behalf of a government official to track down a missing girl named Bianca. Alex’s search takes him into the underbelly of Glasgow where he comes across the suspicious Amar and Ghadir who appear to be running a shady criminal operation far beyond the confines of their commercial property. Will Alex manage to find the girl and get her back safely, leading to his own ultimate retribution? Can he take down a ruthless trafficking ring or has he endangered the lives of himself and those around him beyond positive outcome?

Dead Before They Wake is set for release in the US on January 7th 2025 and arrives in the UK on January 27th 2025.
Production has wrapped on Bring the Law, an action-thriller that marks the directorial debut of actress Scout Taylor Compton (2007’s Halloween).

The film, hailing from Hillin Entertainment and produced by Daemon Hillin and Carolina Brasil, stars Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Peter Facinelli (Twilight), Nicky Whelan (The Flood), Danielle Harris (Halloween), Brendan Fehr (Roswell), and Leah Pipes (The Originals).

The film sees a grieving homicide detective chosen to lead a task force in Los Angeles to stop a criminal organization. He soon unravels a conspiracy involving corruption in his own department.

Film Bridge International will be repping world sales. Pic is written by Josh Ridgway from a story by Daniel Figueiredo.
