Weekly Town Hall, Demonstration of Vote Counting under Ranked Choice Voting (Proposition 1)

Nick Contos (anti-RCV) and Hyram Erickson (pro-RCV) will be demonstrating how vote counting occurs under Ranked Choice Voting (RCV).

Ranked Choice Voting is at the core of ‘Proposition 1’ which will be on the ballot in November. But what is Ranked Choice Voting and how does ballot counting really occur? How simple or complicated is it to determine a winner under Ranked Choice Voting? Proponents say it is as easy as counting to four, but critics say counting is much more complicated. Nick has developed an exercise to help answer these questions.

Nick has assembled a scenario where 4 candidates (Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, and Thor) are running for an elected position and votes were cast using Ranked Choice Voting. A few volunteers will count the ballots to demonstrate how ballots are counted and how the winning candidate is determined. Hyram will participate to ensure the demonstration is accurate. We will have several opportunities to see comes out the winner in the final count. This will be a very interesting exercise to witness.
