Wow thanks for posting this, I've only ever really seen new York documentaries before. 1988 was such a great year for New York and LA in terms of who was making great art musically and visually. Hip hop culture really brought people together, It's great to see such a different mixture of people getting together to do this. We maybe more connected these days with technology, but we are not together as much physically. You can see it from this footage. Dope doc... I don’t think most people have really understood how real/dangerous graffiti was in LA back then when gang violence was at a all time high. Going out bombing wasn’t just about worrying about the cops back then rather being seen by actual bangers and being mistaken as a gang member throwing up sets/claiming turf and possibly being shot at or stomped out was a very possible scenario that could happen on any street in any hood at any time day or night. A lot of today’s kids in the culture need to appreciate the old school cats for pathing the way for real I see blacks and whites acting together this was in the late 80s early 90s what happened homes?! Bekende Groningse graffitiartiesten zoals Pinox, Mickey en Quask geven een kijkje in het verleden van deze subcultuur. "Het verhaal was nog niet vastgelegd, terwijl Groningen een belangrijke rol speelt in de geschiedenis van graffiti in Europa", vertelt Hugo Engwerda van Stichting Kladmuur. De graffiti-fan verzamelt al jaren beelden, foto's en documenten van de subcultuur. "Ik kreeg sterk de behoefte om er een film mee te maken", zegt Engwerda. Tijdens een expositie van zijn verzamelde archief in het Groninger Museum komt Engwerda in contact met de Groninger Archieven. Ook zij blijken nog veel bruikbaar materiaal te hebben. "We vonden zo'n acht tot tien bruikbare films", zegt René Duursma van het Groninger Archief. Voor het produceren van de documentaire zijn drie jonge filmmakers aangewezen. Igor de Boer, Joey Benistant en David Sciarone krijgen de kans om al het oude en nieuwe materiaal tot een geheel te vormen. De documentaire wordt in opdracht van Stichting Kladmuur gemaakt, in samenwerking met de Groninger Archieven.
