Megyn Kelly: I Don’t See What He Gains Out of 60 Minutes Interview, But Being on Camera Is in His DNA

HEWITT: “Some inside baseball stuff, Meghan. My second job out of college, 1978, was working for Richard Nixon as a ghostwriter. When he moved back to New York, he agreed to an interview with ABC because it was live, it was not on tape, it could not be edited. He turned down ‘60 Minutes’ even though ‘60 Minutes’ had a bigger audience in 1980, when he was trying to sell a book. Do you think Donald Trump should do ‘60 Minutes?’ I don’t, but I — I guess he’s going to.”
Kelly: “I don’t know why he’s doing any of these mainstream medias. I really don’t. I know he wants exposure, but, like, he can get exposure. The think he’s doing right now, going on — because, given the gender gap, the problem between the two of them where he’s running wild with the numbers when it comes to men and he’s hurting more with the women, I don’t think he’s going to win over those women. I don’t think watching ‘60’ is going to win over any of those viewers who are sitting in the middle, because if you’re watching ‘60,’ you are probably an older American, you are probably leaning more towards Donald Trump anyway if you’re an older American, and, by the way, you’re probably left-leaning. So I just don’t think that’s the place to go. I think he’s been smart with going on, like, Theo Von and Shawn Ryan and these more, like, huge podcasts that speak to young disaffected men, most of whom have been told for the past four years they’re absolutely disgusting because they’re white and they’re male, and saying, ‘I hear you and I’ve got reasonable policies, and I don’t think you’re disgusting just because your skin color or your biology and your gender.’ So I don’t see what he gains out of it. It’s just Trump’s instinct is, when offered a platform where you might be on camera, he takes it. He loves seeing himself on camera. It’s in his DNA. And I think he’s thinking maybe he can pull another thing like he did with Lesley Stahl where he taped it and he can make them look bad. Maybe that will happen. Maybe it won’t. I don’t see really, other than that, what he gains from it.”
