1. Passages Emphasizing Baptism:
There are some Bible verses that seem to link baptism with salvation:

Mark 16:16 (KJV):

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."
This verse would therefore appear to be saying, if taken literally, that baptism is part of salvation, but note the emphasis is belief-a lack of it-begets condemnation.

Acts 2:38 (KJV):

"Then Peter said unto them, 'Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost'."
Here, he calls the people to repentance and baptism for the forgiveness of sins, which shows that baptism is part of the process of salvation.

1 Peter 3:21 (KJV):

"The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ."
This verse does indeed link baptism with salvation but then proceeds to underscore the fact that it is not the act in and of itself but rather the appeal to God through Jesus that saves.

Ephesians 2:8-9,
KJV:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast."

John 3:16, KJV says,

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Romans 10:9-10 (KJV):

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Again, the emphasis is on confession and belief as a means of salvation.

Baptismal regeneration required for salvation: Some of the traditions-one thinks of Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox-tradition does, in fact, declare baptism necessary to receive God's grace and salvation. He was not baptized, but Jesus granted him a promise of salvation. This is the case many people cite when attempting to make the case that baptism is not required for salvation, although it is a step of obedience.
