Are Perfectionism And Depression Related? 💙

Let's talk about perfectionism and the role it has in depression. I always thought perfectionism was people that got loads and loads of work done and they were just a bit concerned that they weren't reaching 100% with how good it was.💙

Maybe they spent quite a bit of time polishing it but they still got a lot done. It turns out that I actually have perfectionist tendencies and the way they showed up was through huge procrastination which was deemed laziness and I blamed myself for not getting enough done.💙

It turns out that the only time something was perfect was when it was in my head so I had the biggest reluctance around putting stuff into the real world because as soon as it went into the real world it was never going to be perfect so I didn't create it and then that led to huge self -blame and self -recrimination as to why I was procrastinating, why I was lazy, why I couldn't get anything done and those helped feed into and create the depression that I ended up suffering with for 20 years.💙

So perfectionism isn't that you're churning out loads of material and just a bit worried that it's not perfect. Perfectionism can actually look like laziness and procrastination and it can feed into depression if you have negative thoughts and self -belief around the fact that you're not getting work done. 💙
