Vice President Kamala Harris plans to propose the first federal ban on “corporate price-gouging” in the food and grocery industries, as part of her broader economic platform.

The ban aims to address excessive pricing unrelated to business costs, which Harris argues is evident in rising grocery bills.

The proposal, part of her presidential campaign, will be unveiled at a rally in North Carolina, where she will also pledge to scrutinize potential mergers in the food industry that could raise consumer prices.

Harris’ plan aligns with the Biden administration’s focus on consumer protection but marks her own campaign’s economic policy.

Additionally, she will introduce measures to reduce costs in prescription drugs and housing, CNBC has reported.
