Originally published on YouTube on June 26, 2019. #bushcraft #camping #primitiveskills "Camp Coyote" Episode 9 is centered around the construction and completion of the back wall of the shelter. By adding the framework of poles it allows me to weave and fill it in with debris, saplings and whatever can be found on the forest floor. The back wall takes on more of a primitive look using thatching and weaving. This shelter is fairly large and some might think it is overkill but I am trying to build it to last many years. Many camping trips! It is a very hot and muggy day in the forest but many trees provide me with plenty of shade with a slight breeze every now and then. Fueled by the calories from an MRE, I give it my best effort to build what I envision. This is going to be one awesome and unique shelter when I am finished with it. Originally published on YouTube on June 16, 2019 In episode 8 of this bushcraft shelter build I discover just how much Camp Coyote has gotten a lot more green since I last visited. The forest is growing up and filling out around the camp. It is plush and lush with ferns growing all over the forest floor which makes it very hard to see what might be stepping on. Summer is hot and that means that snakes could be everywhere. I do not care for snakes, personally. With the evening setting in and darkness on the way I decide to just enjoy the time outdoors In the woods instead of trying to build more on the shelter. There is plenty of time for adding on to the structure later. I can tell that finding resources in the vast land of green and thick vegetation will be much harder than before during the winter months. With the threat of spiders, ticks, snakes and of course coyotes, new challenges await. My plan is to complete as much of the shelter as possible before It is time for me to say away from the area once hunting season hits. It was nice to get out and enjoy being in the wilderness. I plan on #camping in the shelter for many years to come so it is very important to keep the rain out and the raised bed dry. Originally published on March 19, 2019 Bushcraft Shelter Build - Episode 6 - New Fire Pit I return to the new #bushcraftshelter with my dog Zeus with intentions of adding on to the roof of the #bushcraft shelter but I get sidetracked in building a new fire pit. Ready to camp over night, I have to keep a close eye on Zeus who is totally on edge out in the wild land. He has never been this deep in a forest before. His protective instinct is on high alert as he keeps an ear to the sounds of the forest. Construction of a new #firepit up close to the raised bed takes a majority of the time spent out there due to having to carry rocks from across the creek. With Zeus finally settled and under control I have a few drinks by the fire on the creek bed and enjoy a night in the wilderness. It was a long, cold night, to say the least, but worth every single second of it. There is a lot of work to be done on the shelter and only time is on my side. I tie off the main supports to the tripods that are the base for the structure. As I am working on the shelter I hang a sausage over the camp fire from a cooking tripod. Logging and gathering materials sure does burn up a lot of calories and is quite tiresome. All the hard work I put into this shelter will be worth it. In the dark night I enjoy a fire cooked steak and try to keep the coyotes at bay. Episode 2 didn't go very well and not much was accomplished. Originally published on YouTube on June 30, 2019 Bushcraft Shelter Build - Episode 1 It is time to build a new shelter, a new camp. Not necessarily a new base camp but a new camp. On a family hike (not on film) on private land I have camped at a few times, we explore more into the woods and go farther in than I did before. We found what I wanted to find, a creek. A water source for drinking and cleaning cook pots without having to pack water in and out. As we walked along the creek into the flatland forest I was on the lookout for a perfect spot to build a shelter. Having seen what its like in the promised land, I head to the area to get started on the build. I chose to make this a raw footage series to show the process of the shelter from start to finish. There will be minimal editing but nothing fancy.
