I had just received my new action cam and was house setting at my Brother In Law's house. Wanted to see a few setups and angles.

A quick little beach hunt with goodies

The day started out calm but the tide was on the rise and the current between the beach and sandbar was picking up steadily. I managed to get a couple hours in the water before I was forced out. I got the 8 ounce round sinker and the 14K Yellow Gold ring in the water, then I got nearly a buck in change up in the dry sand. And I managed to sit with the wife and have a Daiquiri as well. It was a good day to be at the beach for sure!

In this video I go "Old School"... I take my DFX out to the beach with a new program to try out. Additionally, I'll have my new Nokta Pulsedive along to test out in the dry sand. I'm truly impressed with that DFX and certainly don't regret getting the Pulsedive. Check out the video, I think its my best one yet, and if you like it, give me a "Like" please.

I had been using Tect O Trak very successfully and happily for years, until I had to get a new phone... For some reason Tect O Trak would not work as accurately on my new phone. The app's creator Mark Seeley worked with me to try and figure out what was wrong to no avail. Finally after a software update on my phone, the app started working again, and not just working but working better than ever! If you want an app that will track the paths you walk, record the location, name, description, and a picture of each find as you choose then this is for you. There are additional features on this latest version that I have yet to try like image overlay and pathfinder mode.

This was my first hunt of the year with my 'tecting buddy Kurt. We hit a new section (to us) of beach way further West of our usual stomping grounds. Unfortunately this stretch of beach was really quiet, hardly any trash targets, not to mention good targets. Met some neat people, as usual they were loaded with questions.

Kurt and I went out to a new area that we hadn't done recently. It was a bit disappointing, but not a bust for either of us... Kurt did quite a bit better than I this time out. It had been looking more and more like the beaches were "hunted out" around here, between the low number of tourists that we had here and the added pressure from having more locals hunting the beaches regularly, targets were getting slim. So I decided to get the 15 inch coil from Minelab to see if I could get deeper targets. After 8 hours across two hunts, I can say that you certainly do get deeper targets! I used Beach 1 mode for this hunt and was able to run with 23 for my sensitivity for the majority of the hunt (there's one section of beach where a new 5G cell tower has been erected across the street and you have to run 17 in that area) as I do with the 11 inch coil. Most of the targets I dug today were 10 inches or deeper, with one target being 20 INCHES!! In the video, look at my scoop, it's 15 inches long and in one instance I stick it straight down into the hole and the back of the scoop is at least 5 inches below the surface. I was talking to somebody the other day, who said you know these metal detecting videos aren't really realistic. They get edited so that all you see is the coins and jewelry that everybody finds. Not the 3 hours I'm swinging the coil hitting pull tabs and pop tops and junk. So I said about this video to show you that metal detecting hunt was not what you saw in most videos. It didn't quite work out that way. At one point I was able to hit a coin a minute. But I did still get more than my fair share of trash. Additionally, it occurs to me... On most videos these guys that are making them are rambling on talking along with this hunt. well I don't have either a face for video or voice for radio, I wonder if you guys wouldn't be happier with my videos if I narrated them instead of just putting a soundtrack in them. Please leave me a comment and let me know which way you guys would prefer. would you prefer me incorporating The Sounds the detector makes and narration as I detect, or just the Musical soundtrack, or little bit of both...

I ended up getting an E-Trac instead because I just couldn't find a way to pay for it then. Fast forward to December 2022 and Minelab has reduced the price AND included a FREE 17 inch coil. How could I not get it? My Akaso V50X action cam really let me down today, I was using the app for the first time in a long time and it may be the culprit here but either way I have a new one in the Amazon cart. Sadly though, there's very little action in this video, but it catches the viewer up on what's new in my life and where I've been for the last year. Additionally you get to see my "sweet" finds at the end of the video...

I did a second hunt with the 3030 today and had better luck with the video camera as well, for the most part...

I've been playing with a mode using TTF (Two Tone Ferrous), a favorite of mine on my E-Trac when working Iron infested sites. Today was the first real test "in the wild" and it acquitted itself on the CTX3030 wonderfully. In addition, I hooked up with another detectorist from a town a ways away, and we had a great time.

On this hunt I traveled to Houma La. and hunted with a new detecting buddy. This site was a US Navy blimp base in WW2. The Navy flew anti-submarine patrols out over the Gulf Of Mexico from here. There's not much to tell, good finds were few and far between on this first hunt at a new to me site. I do have high hopes of still finding some Silver or USN artifacts on future hunts even though this site has been pounded over the years by other detectorists. I always have faith in my machine, my skills and the chance that possibly they all missed and area I might find. But it was a fun hunt out with my buddy Gene. This place has so much potential and we have only just scratched the surface...

I met a guy while hunting a local park. Nice guy. Had some legit questions about Metal Detecting and eventually got around to asking if I could find his class ring in his front yard... WOW, sounds like a slam dunk... So I said sure, without knowing "The Rest Of The Story". Turns out I had Time, Fill Dirt, and Trash In The Ground going against me. But I did get a few coins, and a Doubloon... a Mardi Gras Doubloon!

Since this video was made, the guy who made my Finds Rig has stopped producing them. It's really sad because it's such a well thought out and well made rig. I'm using a Two Tone Ferrous mode today that I found on a buddy's YouTube Channel, it works super in the really trashy Iron infested parks that I like to hunt in. Just search for "Minelab CTX3030 using the smooth audio setting" if you want to see how to set it up.

If you have ever doubted the need to recheck your hole after recovering your target, or finding trash and thinking it was the only thing there... well pay attention...
