Scott: “Juan, you heard the former president’s speech there. Do you agree it was a gentler tone from Donald Trump this time around?”
WILLIAMS: “No, first of all, everyone was concerned about his safety. You have a lot of people who may be tuning in this Saturday afternoon and evening just to see what it looked like because this is really Trump back on the campaign trail for the first time since those events in Pennsylvania last week. It was so shocking to the country, an assassination attempt. So he has it in an indoor arena in Grand Rapids. It looks like security was not an issue. The big bandage on the area is gone, now it looks like there is more of a flesh-toned smaller bandage so it is not quite as obvious. Now I told him it had become at the convention where other people were putting it on their ears to show support for the former president. So, in some ways, it is a relief there. Maybe he felt more of a relief and totally embraced by the crowd. But I think you pick up on themes from this afternoon’s speech and it is really hard on the immigration, their sadistic, their criminal he recounted the murder of a woman in Kent County, Michigan shot in the car, her child in the car, he calls them sadistic hannibal lector and all of that. In a way, you know, how people talked about the speech of the convention they said the first part where he talks about the assassination attempt was quite compelling. But then he just went off and went back to being Trump. Today, I think he is back talking about immigration, talking about crime, the grievances, the grudges, the I’m going to bring back your auto industry, we’re going to stop with the electric cars. This is just like a Trump rally. It is really indistinguishable from what we’ve seen previously coming at a highly charged celebration of Donald Trump which is a Trump rally.”
