Known Before We Were Born

We read in ‭Psalms 139:13 and 16,
[13] "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb....[16] Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

And we read in ‭Jeremiah 1:4-5,

"The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”

God knew each one of us before we were born. God set each one of us apart before we were born. He ordained all our days before one of them came to be. Why is that? It is because He is our creator, He is our Father and He has a purpose for each of us within His family.

Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:10,

"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Since we are the handiwork of our Heavenly Father, He knows us inside and out.

We read in Psalm 139:1,

"O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether."

He knows our natural tendencies, He knows our struggles, and He knows our strengths. And the beauty of this is knowing that God is our potter, forming us and shaping us through our struggles and strengths to develop each of us into the final product He has seen us as from before we were born.

We read in Isaiah 64:8,
"You, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand."

As we are the work of His hand, He has a purpose for each of us. What is our purpose? Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:14-16,

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Our Heavenly Father created us to be His children - to be part of His family - and as such, we are His representatives. So all that we do, should be an example of loving Him and loving one another and ultimately glorify Him. As Apostle Paul teaches us in Colossians 3:17,

"Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

God foreknew us, predestined us, and ordained our days. We are His handiwork created for a special purpose. We are His children and we are precious and valuable in His sight and His purposes. Apostle Paul shares in Romans 8:29-30,

"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."

Let us finish with David's words of praise in Psalms 139:14,

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
