James Carville: Dems Are in the Middle of a Crisis, ‘We Are Doing Exactly What Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago Want Us To Do’

Mitchell: “President Biden is heading to battleground Michigan today, perhaps no more important state — well, maybe there’s Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, they’re all important. He remains defiant as he dismissed calls for him to step aside. At his press conference last night, Mr. Biden dismissing his low job approval rating, which sits at 37 percent.”

Biden: “There were at least five presidents, running or incumbent presidents, who had lower numbers than I have now later in the campaign. So, there’s a long way to go in this campaign. And so, I — I’m just going to keep moving.”
[Clip ends]
Mitchell: “Joining me now is James Carville, veteran Democratic strategist who helped get Bill Clinton, of course, elected and he’s now calling on President Biden to step aside. James, thanks for being with us. So —“
CARVILLE: “You bet.”
Mitchell: “— I can’t offhand remember five presidents who were elected, and they were in their upper 30s. Help me here.”
CARVILLE: “I can’t help you, I’m sorry. You know, somebody’s going to ask a follow up. So Chuck, you know, if you’ve gotten anybody and I think he said it was the lowest that he’d ever seen, but we got to move fast. We can’t fact-check everything. We’re in the middle of a crisis here.”
Mitchell: “There’s more fact checking required on the Republican side, but we’re talking about the Democrats.” [crosstalk]
CARVILLE: “Right. Yeah, of course. Of course.”
Mitchell: “So you’re proposing town halls with Democrats competing for the nomination, with presidents Clinton and Obama moderating — I don’t know how you bring that together — but you’re the magician, you could do it. But is that chaos? Is that the recipe for chaos? And you’ve got Chicago, the memories of 1968, there is no peace breaking out in Gaza, you’ve got demonstrations, you know.”
CARVILLE: “You know, Andrea, it might be chaos. I tell you what we’re doing right now. We’re doing exactly what Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago want us to do. Anybody doesn’t believe the great Tim Alberta, one of the best journalists in America. And if the Democratic Party is hell-bent on pleasing Donald Trump, then go ahead and do this. It’s just that simple. And you know, what always happens is Washington ties, well, you know, you have Clinton and Obama, that’s not going to work. Well, I don’t care. Do something. Don’t just stand there. And the way that Washington kills everything is fill in the details, James. The details are we on track to lose an election to a major criminal who is going to destroy the Western alliance, the Constitution, and everything in between. So we ought to act like it.”
