Whole Masoor Dal - Restaurant Style I Akkha Masoor Tadka I Red Lentil Recipe by India On A Plate

Ingredients:
1 cup whole Masoor dal/red lentil
3 to 4 cups water
2 tbs cooking/veg. oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 small cinnamon stick
3 cloves
2 bay leaves
2 small/1 large onion - chopped
3 pods of garlic - minced
1 tomato - diced
flour from 6 cashew nuts
1 tsp cumin-coriander powder mix
1/3 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder (add less for milder version)
1 tsp ghee (clarified butter)
1 tbsp butter
1/4 tsp garam masala
2 tsp chopped coriander/cilantro leaves

Cooking Instructions:
Rinse whole Masoor dal couple of times, drain water
Add 2 cups water and set aside for 2 to 4 hours
In a saucepan heat cooking oil
Once oil is hot add cumin seeds, bay leaves, cloves & chopped onion
Saute for 2 to 3 minutes until onion softens then add garlic
Stir fry for 15 seconds then add tomatoes
Cook for 2 minutes until tomatoes soften up then add cashew flour
Mix well then add cumin-coriander powder mix, turmeric & red chili powder
Stir in ghee, add 2 more cups of water
Mix well, cover with lid and simmer on medium low for 20 minutes
Open lid after 20 minutes, add garam masala & 1 tsp coriander leaves
Cover saucepan again and simmer for 2 more minutes
Wala! Your delicious Akkha-Whole Masoor Dal is ready!
Transfer to serving bowl, add butter and sprinkle with 1 tsp of chopped coriander/cilantro leaves. Enjoy with Rice, Naan or Roti
