Where Does Depression Come From? Part Two. 💙

The second part is that the person who encounters depression, experiences depression, will often have some kind of negative thinking with relation to themselves. 💙

So they will think things like, "well why didn't I see that coming", "why wasn't I good enough to deal with it", "other people are able to deal with it", "I'm not good enough to deal with it", and these thoughts will spiral and ruminate.💙

This is what causes the actual depression, and this kind of thinking can be set up in childhood when something happens and the child feels abandoned or unsafe, insecure, things like that.💙

So it's the one-two punch of the stressors, both acute and chronic, overloading the person's stress resilience, and also this negative kind of ruminating thought patterns that send the person on a spiral downwards. And those are generally considered to be the two elements that are needed to trigger depression. 💙
