Springfield Armory 1911 Garrison: Is it worth the $868 Price Tag

The Springfield Garrison 1911 is definitely a beautiful handgun. Everything on this pistol feels tight, and it is ultra reliable. I didn't experience a single malfunction while running this pistol for this review.

The machining on this is top quality, it doesn't have any rough edges or marks.

The pistol runs pretty smoothly and being a full steel pistol, the recoil with 45 ACP is very manageable. Even though I typically am used to shooting 9mm.

The single action trigger is extremely smooth. Exactly as you'd expect on a 1911.

If you're a 1911 fan, you'll like some of the features on this pistol. The extended beaver tail is nice. The slide release is smooth. It'll have familiar controls in terms of the manual safety as well as the grip safety.

The pistol takes standard 1911 single stack magazines, thus it holds 7 rounds.

One thing that sets this pistol apart from other 1911s are its sights. It ships with high quality steel 3 Dot pattern sights.

I was also able to run this pistol one handed, both with left and right hands, and the pistol performed well. Although to be honest, Im not super familiar or comfortable with the 1911 platform in general being primarily a glock shooter.

Honestly, I actually didn't like this gun all that much. That's more of a me problem than it is anything in particular about this gun. I think I probably just don't like 1911s all that much in general.

With an active style grip that works really well for glock, its difficult to get a solid purchase on a 1911 since there isn't that much frame space. I also prefer a rougher stipple and the grips on this thing are pretty smooth. I've shot a few others before models from colt, and I've also shot Springfield's more expensive Springfield TRP Operator model.

I like the TRP operator better because it has a very rough grip stipple but its also significantly more expensive than the Garrison.

The TRP operator is texutred in the front of the grip, this is smooth except for some checkering in the back. I think those factors makes this a bit harder to
control when shooting.

At the end of the day it is a beautifully machined pistol. If you're a 1911 guy you might wanta to give this one a look, but in all honestly it at an $868 MSRP, it just didn't do it for me.
