You can learn to swim quicker than you think. After six years of learning by trial and error, from YouTube tutorials, I’ve realized that it only takes a few minutes and the right information to get started with breaststroke. In my case a modified version of it with I call the “Lazy Man’s Breaststroke”. I enjoy this style of swimming whenever I don’t feel like pushing hard or want to relax in the water rather than working out. Whilst exploring through swimming subreddit on Reddit, I’ve stumbled on this question a lot. Many people are asking whether it is possible to learn swimming on your own without hiring a swimming instructor. And despite some downsides to doing so, I can absolutely confirm that it is possible to learn by yourself. I’ve learned to swim by watching YouTube tutorials and practicing what I learned in my local swimming pool. Although I had no one to keep me accountable or motivated, I kept going for the past six years. I’ve learned freestyle, breath-stroke and backstroke. I feel very confident in my ability, endurance and speed despite not having a profesional teaching me at all. I’m learning to swim butterfly now and will share the progress in upcoming months.
