Palak Dal/Dal Palak Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup Toor Dal/Indian Split Pigeon Peas
2 cups spinach cut into ribbons
2.5 tbsp ghee (Indian clarified butter)
1 onion - chopped
1 green chili - chopped
1 tbsp ginger - minced
2 cloves of garlic minced
1 chopped tomato
1 tbsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp Asafoetida/Hing
1 tsp red chili powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp cumin-coriander seed powder
salt to taste
3 to 4 cups water to preboil/cook Toor dal

Method:
Boil Toor Dal in ample water in a saucepan until its cooked and tender
Alternatively, you can cook it in a pressure cooker
In a separate preheated nonstick saucepan add ghee
Add cumin seeds. Once they start sputtering add onion & green chili
Next add garlic & ginger, saute for 2 minutes
Once onion is translucent add red chili powder, turmeric powder &
cumin-coriander powder mix
Mix well then add tomatoes. Cook for 2 minutes
Now add cooked Toor Dal, mix well then add spinach
Let simmer for a minute then transfer to serving bowl
Our Palak Dal/Dal Palak is ready!
Enjoy with roti or naan flatbreads
