Johnny Lee: Lookin' For Love - On Solid Gold - September 13, 1980 (My "Stereo Studio Sound" Re-Edit) "Lookin' for Love" is a song written by Wanda Mallette, Bob Morrison and Patti Ryan, and recorded by American country music singer Johnny Lee. It was released in June 1980 as part of the soundtrack to the film Urban Cowboy, released that year. Marcy Levy was one of the female singers who provided backing vocals on the track. "Lookin' for Love" was reissued as the lead song on Lee's October 1980 album of the same name. Lee, whose biggest hit to date had been a 1977 cover of Ricky Nelson's "Garden Party", had been the main nightclub act (behind Mickey Gilley himself) at Gilley's, a nightclub owned by Sherwood Cryer and country music superstar Mickey Gilley. Record executive Irving Azoff offered Lee the chance to record "Lookin' For Love", a song that 20-plus artists had rejected. Critical reaction to the song has been mixed. The Boston Globe called it "a powerful new ballad," noting "Lee's rich southern baritone and thick phrasing." AllMusic determined that "the MOR country-pop of 'Lookin' for Love' is so appealing that one suspects it could have been a hit even without the publicity from Urban Cowboy." Country music historian Bill Malone once noted that "Lookin' for Love" – in his words, a "lilting little pop song" – became the featured song of Urban Cowboy and a huge commercial hit largely because "actor John Travolta (the movie's co-star) expressed a liking for it." Critic Kurt Wolff panned the song as an example of "watered-down cowboy music." Public reaction was better. "Lookin' for Love" rose to No. 1 (for a three-week stay) on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, and was a No. 5 Billboard Hot 100 hit as well. On the US Cash Box Top 100, the song spent two weeks at No. 4. The song is now recognized as a standard in country music, praised by country music fans and critics alike. "Lookin' for Love" was certified gold in 1980 for shipments of 1,000,000 units by the Recording Industry Association of America.

It was released in January 1987 as the first single from her eponymous debut album. The song reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and charted in several countries worldwide, peaking at number one in Canada. Watley re-recorded and re-issued the song in various remixes in 2005. While listening to a tape of instrumental tracks given to her by producer André Cymone, Watley reflected on a recent sour romantic breakup. Fusing her own feelings of "I'll show you" with the feel of the track, Watley came up with the basic premise of "Looking for a New Love." The released record is the eight-track demo of the song; that way the emotional urgency of Watley's vocal was still intact. One of the song's key phrases became a popular saying: "Hasta la vista, baby." It wound up on innumerable answering machines and was used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day (see Hasta la vista, baby). The single hit number two for four consecutive weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100 in May 1987 and spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart. In Washington, D.C., there is the Museum of the Bible, a huge building that is considered to be one of the “most technologically advanced and engaging museums in the world.” This place started back in 2017, showcasing rare artifacts and creating experiences so that visitors can learn more about the Bible’s history. Curator Amy Van Dyke has been able to reminisce and share some of her experiences handling some of the rare items in this Bible museum. She shared a story with FoxNews about the first time she held the Bible of the King of Rock N’ Roll, Elvis Presley himself. The Museum of the Bible has two of Elvis Presley’s Bibles. One was the King’s personal Bible and the other was a Bible given to him by a fan (Pat Hyder from Cowpens, South Carolina). Amy explained that she could tell it was “something special to him,” describing how the inside was filled with handwritten notes, front to back. Because of his performance history, it makes sense why the King of Rock N’ Roll would be so dedicated to his Bibles. Elvis Presley became known when he performed in the Assembly of God Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. He won Grammy Awards for his gospel music, winning best-sacred performance in 1967 and best inspirational performance in 1972 and 1974. Amy continued to explain that Elvis’s favorite book of the Bible was probably the book of Psalms. His handwritten notes scribbled in the margins indicate that this American legend probably took a stronger liking to this very poetic part of the Bible. “His favorite book, from what it looks like, was the book of Psalms, because, in the book of Psalms, there’s a lot of notations and writings in there, which makes sense because it’s a book of songs. So for a musician, it made a lot of sense,” Amy told FoxNews, “And in the back of that Bible, there’s also some writing and some stanzas that he’s written in there and poems and other things that really spoke to him.” Safe to say the King of Rock N’ Roll took to the Bible and became a true American legend.
