MSNBC Host Says Trump 'Promised American Carnage' – He Promised the Opposite?

As the Democrat Party and its quasi-official state media continue to melt into puddles of histrionic goo because of the stark reality that Donald J. Trump might very well again be elected president of the United States in November, articles about their hysterics get more and more fun to write.

This is one of those articles.

MSNBC's "This Weekend" co-anchor Symone Sanders-Townsend (who was also Sen. Bernie Sanders' (I-VT) 2016 national press secretary), declared on Saturday's episode of the hopelessly biased show that Trump "promised carnage" in his January 2017 Inauguration Day address.

Just one problem.

Sanders-Townsend either blatantly lied or had zero idea what she was talking about. Trump not only didn't "promise carnage" — he promised the exact opposite, which we'll get to in a bit.

I suspect the truth was a bit of both. Sanders-Townsend had zero idea what she was talking about, other than the word "carnage," and she ran with it. Given her probable hatred of Trump, perhaps she assumed he said what she said he said.

Political commentator Michael Steele, a pretend-Republican who served as chair of the Republican National Committee from 2009 until 2011, kicked off the relevant portion of the segment.

Donald Trump is leaning into a dark and dystopian version of America. And his distortion of reality is reaching a new low when it comes to immigration. He's now embracing the word bloodbath to falsely blame migrants for crime waves that, guess what, are just not happening. And he described President Biden's economic record as, quote, a "migrant job fair."

First, the "bloodbath" nonsense was also a blatant lie.

As we reported on March 17, Trump did not "embrace the word 'bloodbath' to falsely blame migrants for crime waves that, guess what, are just not happening."

What Trump did do was use the term about China building two new automobile plants in Mexico and planning to ship untold numbers into the U.S. Trump said there would be a bloodbath in America — concerning a flood of Chinese cars into the country — if he didn't win in November, a clear reference to the American economy.

So, let's get back to Ms. Sanders-Townsend and her whopper. In response to Steel's nonsense, she said:

When Donald Trump announced – not even that – when he, on his inauguration ... in his remarks during his inauguration, he promised American carnage. He is now making ... he tried to make good on that promise throughout his presidency, on January 6th after he lost.

Nonsense. Here's what Trump actually said on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2017 (emphasis, mine):

Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves. These are just and reasonable demands of righteous people and a righteous public, but for too many of our citizens a different reality exists.

Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities, rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation, [and] an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge, and the crime, and the gangs, and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.
