Here are some tips to help you stay safe while at a hotel:

Choose a Reputable Hotel: Select accommodations with good reviews and a solid reputation for safety and cleanliness.

Check Reviews: Read online reviews from other guests to get an idea of the hotel's safety standards.

Secure Valuables: Use the hotel safe for important documents, passports, and valuables. Don't leave expensive items unattended in your room.

Be Mindful of Your Room Number: Avoid loudly mentioning your room number in public areas. If necessary, write it down discreetly for your reference.

Lock Your Door: Always use all available locks on your hotel room door. Use the deadbolt and chain lock when inside.

Use the Peephole: Verify the identity of anyone knocking on your door before opening it. Use the peephole if available.

Be Cautious with Strangers: Avoid sharing personal information with strangers. Be cautious when meeting new people, even if they claim to be hotel staff.

Know Emergency Exits: Familiarize yourself with the emergency exits and escape routes. In case of an emergency, know how to quickly leave the building.

Keep Emergency Numbers Handy: Have the local emergency numbers, as well as the hotel's contact information, saved in your phone.

Be Wary of Public Wi-Fi: Use a secure and reputable Virtual Private Network (VPN) when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks in the hotel.

Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice anything suspicious, report it to hotel staff or management immediately.

Stay Informed: Be aware of the local area and any potential safety concerns. If there are specific safety guidelines provided by the hotel, follow them.

Remember, these are general tips, and it's essential to adapt them to your specific situation and location. Always prioritize your personal safety and well-being.

Clandestine communication has two purposes. Communicating something in "code", and ways to communicate when normal means (cell phones, landlines, email) are unavailable. When traveling abroad or even when at home having the ability to signal extreme danger to your family is important.

In this example Military and Government Special Operations Veteran Joe Teti and former Green Beret and Delta Force Operator Dale Comstock use a hotel or travel situation to illustrate this point. There could be a situation while traveling where one member of the party recognizes an extreme danger and needs to indicate to the rest of the group to meet at a predetermined location (rendezvous point), or leave the country immediately by going to the airport by whatever means necessary.

At home this could mean abandoning your home in a post crisis or disaster situation. Setting up a "turn around immediately and meet at the rendezvous location" signal is a critical piece of your overall crisis survival strategy. This could be a piece of duct tape across your front door, or mailbox. It will look odd but will mean nothing to anyone but your and your family.

Communication is critical in self defense and survival situations as is having a prepared plan of action for certain disasters or crisis situations. Keep clandestine communication in mind when you develop your plans.
