20240223 Day 684 Part-3
-
Post-Conditioning Posterior Chain
-
Following those, I began my posterior chain work. Since this is the focus of today’s training, I began with higher than usual volume Hammer Strength 45 degree back extensions doing 5x30 and slightly adjusting the emphasis of my hinge to be more glute focused.
-
Next I did some light Nautilus Glute Bridges for loaded terminal hip extension. A powerful posterior chain is important for just about anything athletic. While you can achieve this with a variety of movements, there’s value in targeting the glues with direct training. I like these a lot because they trash your glutes but without the systemic AND axial fatigue of deep squatting.
-
Lastly, after the glute work I hit hamstrings directly with Lifefitness machine lying hamstring curls. I chose lying over seated to emphasize the stretch down behind the knee. With long femurs, I have a lot of leverage up by the hip but down by the knee in the lengthened position I feel particularly vulnerable so when I do train hamstrings directly, I try to emphasize that area with my exercise selection.
