Two Good Hours

Two Good Hours - #33 - Rainbow Islands (Arcade)
ThatDonParkerVODS
My brother and I got the NES port of this game one year for Christmas. It was his recommendation that I play it again. Hope you like it, Chris!
We always did like Bubble Bobble. And we had no idea there was even a sequel to that! (I just found out in late 2023 that there was another sequel to this as well? Parasol Stars. I had no clue.) But I never did play the Arcade version. And does this still hold up after 30 years? We'll see...

Two Good Hours - #32 - Super Mario 64 DS
ThatDonParkerVODS
So when I streamed this, I just met Charles Martinet. If you don't know, he's the man who voiced Mario for over 30 years. He also voiced Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi. (And Paarthurnax in Skyrim, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it). Really, when it comes to voice acting, he's someone I look up to.
As much as I would love to stream as many Mario games as I can, I think I am going to reserve the Mario series as a palette cleanser. It would be great to play them all again for posterity but if I'm ever going to finish the Zelda and Kingdom Hearts series, I have to get serious about that.
Super Mario 64 was originally released on the N64 way back in 1996, but this remake came out in 2004. Super Mario 64 remains a classic in the N64 library, but how does a remaster fair on a handheld system? How does it fair on an emulated system? (Still an official way to play Super Mario 64, I'm just playing on a WiiU. No Big E here). Let's find out!
I should just change my streaming profile to "Nintendo and Square-Enix streamer", because that's really all I play for now. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Two Good Hours - #31 - TMNT II: The Arcade Game (NES)
ThatDonParkerVODS
For Chris.
I don't remember much about getting the game. I don't remember who got to use the free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut coupon (More than likely, no one did. It more than likely expired by the time we got the game) I do remember playing the heck out of it, and loving it.
But does it still hold up or does it still kick shell? Let's give TMNT II: The Arcade Game for the NES the TGH Treatment.

Two Good Hours - #30 - Sonic Frontiers
ThatDonParkerVODS
We take a look at Sonic Frontiers, a 3D open world game in a franchise where 3D was never a strong suit. But I've been impressed before. Let's give it a spin, shall we?

Two Good Hours - #29 - Sungrand Studio Games (Silver Falls White Inside Its Umbra and Undertakers)
ThatDonParkerVODS
The Wii U and 3DS eShops were closing on 03/27/2023. We had a full year to prepare for this and yet somehow I was still caught off guard.
However, one man decided that fans deserved to have one last final blowout of these systems.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/03/eshop-closure-be-damned-this-dev-is-bringing-seven-new-games-to-3ds-and-wii-u
Despite not finishing all seven games promised for the Wii U and 3DS, we got six.
I've been watching this story, and Jerrel Dulay, play out over the last 12 months. It has been an real eye-opener to the development process and just how Wii U and 3DS games are made. I have a new found respect for the game creation process. I take all games with a grain of salt since several factors can hinder the development process, even if the developer does everything right.
This milestone is nothing short of colossal. Dulay ranks up there as an all-time great for what he accomplished this year.
And a special thanks to Nintendo. Because in Dulay's words, "they held the door open for as long as they could.
In this episode, we take a look at two Silver Falls titles, White Inside Its Umbra and Undertakers

Two Good Hours - #28 - Metroid Prime Remastered
ThatDonParkerVODS
Metroid Prime Remastered was a surprise announcement at the 2.8.2023 Direct. It was kind of shocking to see all the love Metroid was getting in recent years. With the remake of Metroid II and the resurrection of Dread, now Metroid Prime one was getting a remaster on Switch? And with a same day release? With a physical release coming soon after that? It was all of a sudden a good thing to be a Metroid fan.
Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of Metroid. The original NES version proved to be too much of a challenge for little Don back in the day. However, Prime was a game changer. A super-atmospheric first-person shooter? Yes, please! (Plus, when I played Metroid: Zero Mission for the first time, I was a believer in Samus) So going back to this game after 15+ years was a treat. But how does it hold up compared to the original.
Folks, I know this is thrown around all the time. But for a first person shooter, it is one of the best. But am I looking at this through a rose-tinted visor?

Two Good Hours - #27 - Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
ThatDonParkerVODS
Not only am I happy to be playing this one. But how I am playing this is pretty exciting. As of recording this, Nintendo released both Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games for the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Such games included in the original launch of this was The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (we'll definitely do this one at some point), Tetris, Gargoyle’s Quest, Game & Watch Gallery 3, Kirby’s Dream Land, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Wario Land 3, and this little gem, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coin.
I think it's fair to say that this game is beloved by most. It could crack the top 10 Mario games for some. (This is a rando Game Boy game competing against the hundreds of games that feature the plumber, that's high praise) I've played this game on original hardware a few years after release, on the 3DS, and even with the Big E. Let's see how the Game Boy on NSO holds up, shall we?

Special thanks to Chelsea for recommending this game! We appreciate your support!
Here we check out what turns out to be a bit of a time capsule as we check out the early release of the game and its opening hours! DDV has received a lot of content updates since I streamed this to when this episode of TGH was released (and even more updates since posting this to Rumble, as this was recorded 09/20/2022)
It's definitely going to have to be one I have to revisit.

Two Good Hours - #25 - Super Mario RPG (#1 and #2)
ThatDonParker
Man, what a year it has been. We cap it off with one of the all-time greatest for the Super Nintendo and even one of the all-time greatest JRPGS, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
It's pretty difficult to give an RPG a pass or fail rating, let alone an RPG, so let's stop talking about and let's get playing.
We made a surprisingly good dent in this game I got for Christmas in 1998. I was a little shocked myself, to be honest. Just flying by here.
10
Two Good Hours - #24 - Batman (NES)
ThatDonParkerVODS
This was one of those games that I didn't know how to feel about it when I was a little Don. At first, I didn't like it because it was too hard. Then I did like the general theming and feel of the game (ESPECIALLY the music) but couldn't get past Stage 3-1. But I'm older, craftier, more experienced, and more importantly, more patient.
Here, I set the tone for what would eventually be one of the most cathardic experiences in my life, let alone in gaming.
Also, we made mention of a viewer's own rom hack that's a more challenging version of Batman.
Check it out here!

Two Good Hours - #23 - California Games (NES)
ThatDonParkerVODS
Not only was this a fun one to do. But my brother, the one person I played video games the most with in my life, joins us for a little bit on this stream. Thanks, Chris!
This was a go-to game for us, for sure. But some of you may be unfamiliar with California Games. You may have heard of Winter Games, but this is way better than that.
Here, we spend two hours Skateboarding on a half pipe, playing footbag, surfing, skating, riding BMX bikes, and throwing a flying disk in the raddest state in the union... back in 1987. Now? Not so much.
Don't worry, California. You'll return to greatness one day! Some day. Eh who the hell am I kidding?
Join us as I play what is essentially a mini-game collection and compete for first place!
(spoiler alert below)
It's just me playing. I was going to get first place anyways.
12
Two Good Hours - #22 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
ThatDonParkerVODS
In 2022, Konami shocked the heck out of us all and released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection for multiple consoles and PC. As I quote from the press release, "13 iconic TMNT games, one shell of a time". There were beat 'em ups, fighters, arcade games, game boy games. But here, we take a look at the action-adventure title for the Nintendo Entertainment System simply titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
When they announced the Cowabunga Collection, I think a lot of people wanted a second crack at this game in particular. I'm glad to have another chance at this game and I'm glad to be sharing this for Two Good Hours.
I heard someone recently say that you could be familiar with a game for years, but if you get to a part in the game you've never been to before, it feels like a brand new game. I most definitely had that feeling in this hour.
Fun fact, in Europe, the game and franchise was called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. But in Japan, the game was called Geki Kame Ninja Den which is roughly translated to english as "Legend of the Radical Ninja Turtles". I think I prefer the Japanese name way more.

Two Good Hours - #21 - Super Mario Bros. 2
ThatDonParkerVODS
We received this for Christmas one year. My one aunt really didn't like Super Mario Bros. 2 as it was a radical departure from the first Super Mario Bros. I didn't mind it. I had a lot of fun over the years with game but now let's see how it holds up in 2022.

Two Good Hours - #20 - Chocobo GP
ThatDonParkerVODS
Just can't seem to steer clear of controversial games this season. Chocobo GP released on March 10, 2022 to a worldwide release. To be honest, I always wanted to play this since it was announced. This was my first import game from Japan. Even after the negative reviews surrounding this game, I wanted to put not only my two cents in, but also Two Good Hours, and give it either a pass or fail rating.
15
Two Good Hours - #19 - Grand Theft Auto Trilogy - Definitive Edition - San Andreas
ThatDonParkerVODS
Ahh man. Here we go again.
For the last time though, because we are finishing the controversial Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition released in 2021. I didn't really have any issues with the first two. They are about the same as I remembered it. Fun but flawed.
But it's a new game to me, so we'll see how the whole thing holds up for a pass/fail rating.
16
Two Good Hours - #18 - Adventures in the Magic Kingdom
ThatDonParkerVODS
To all who come to this happy place, welcome.
"Hey! What happened? I thought he was going to do San Andreas this week!"
Yeah, I was supposed to. But my vacation plans changed. I am Walt Disney World this week (because I hate money) and today in particular I will be in Animal Kingdom, so come say hi if you see me! And I figured what better way to spend some vacation time than playing a video simulating theme park attractions!
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom was released in early June in 1990 and the rest of the world in 1992. It did not see a Japanese release but they did get some Disneyland Tokyo-themed games later.
It should also be noted that famed composer Yoko Shimomura did some composing for this game. Some of her notable works include games in series like Street Fighter, some Mario RPG games (Like Super Mario RPG and Mario & Luigi), and Kingdom Hearts! Plus it was also developed by Capcom! I still love the Disney Afternoon games like DuckTales and Chip and Dale! This one has a lot to live up to.
But anything can happen with a pass or fail rating at the end of two good hours.
17
Two Good Hours - #17 - WWE 2K18
ThatDonParkerVODS
I thought we were close there with "The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa" but that barely squeaked out a "PASS" right at the end when the story was getting ready to pick up. But I think I can confidently say when I first got the idea of Two Good Hours and the pass/fail ratings, I knew where this would land.
WWE's first game since on a Nintendo platform since WWE '13 for the Wii, had a lot to live up to. Does it do that? Let's find out.
Stop snickering. I'm going to ask you to hold your comments for those not in the know. Let them experience this organically. The way we all did back in December 2017.
I explain my backstory with this game. Truly, it was THE WORST gaming experiences I've ever had. Top to bottom. It had everything wrong with modern gaming ancapcillated in this one title alone.
You know dang well what rating I am giving this. But join me for the ride. The multi-man matches are truly a sight to behold.

Two Good Hours - #16 - Donkey Kong Country (Entire playthrough)
ThatDonParkerVODS
At the time of this streaming, I was celebrating my newly released book, TAKE YOUR SHOT, and its bestselling status on Amazon. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than to play one of my favorite games from my childhood, Donkey Kong Country.
Developed by Rare in 1994, it is widely considered to be one of the best platformers on the SNES, even though it is surpassed by its predecessors.
I want to say it was the summer of 1996 or 1997 when we first got this game. It took me the whole summer just to beat it. I was about 11 at the time. I distinctly remember going to a sleepover and we all were terrible at the first minecart level. We tore through dozens of lives and ultimately failed, but it was still a good time.
If only young Don could see me now! We were going to take a break at Gorilla Glacier but we just kept right on going, playing this in one sitting.
I kept saying I've "never played a game in one sitting before on stream", but that is not actually the case in retrospect. There's a deep cut of my very first time streaming on Twitch that I have yet to post. Maybe when my streaming anniversary rolls around in October, I'll post it, but we'll see.
But for now, let's enjoy Donkey Kong Country in its entirety

Colonial America. What an interesting time. How did a rag tag group of farmers beat the world's greatest Army and Navy and kick off contribute to the American Experiment?
Unfortunately we won't find that answer here. Assassin's Creed III is really a convoluted sci-fi game about a "first civilation" of humanity and artifacts with immense power, and I just don't have time for that.
So we just take a look at the meat and potatoes of this game. Stealth, running and jumping across buildings, combat. Lots and lots of combat from all the stealth I failed to complete.

For a more secure financial future, send him an e-mail at eckertm@hdvest.net. Not sure what to ask? Ask him why companies like Netflix are not worthwhile investments. You'll be shocked by the answer.
According to this Forbes article in 2022...
https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2022/01/01/the-ten-games-with-the-most-goty-awards-in-2021/?sh=5abb5e7d63bc
in 2015, The Witcher 3 claimed 281 Game of the Years awards. A record setting number.
But when your sponsor for a season casually drops in a meeting amongst prospective clients and those looking to build a durable portfolio (literally just weeks ago, another seminar is taking place in regards to him and other professionals talking about taxes) saying that the only thing worth watching on Netflix is The Witcher, you don't have a choice to review any other game! Regardless if he asked you to or not! This one is for you, Mike!
Despite not getting far into the game when originally it released for the Switch in late 2019. (I believe I got this game around early 2020, guess why I didn't play much of it) We are playing it now and giving it the Two Good Hours treatment.
Alright, Witcher, do we toss you a coin, or run you out of town?

I played GTA Vice City back when I was in high school in the early 2000s. To be honest, I don't remember much of it. I remember liking Vice City and loving the 80's aesthetic. But this isn't the PS2 version. This is the much more controversial Definitive Edition made in 2022. Crazy, we don't even bat an eyelash to how controversial this game was when it first came out. Now everyone lost their minds, probably more now, that this remastered edition doesn't hold up!
But that's what I am here. Does it get a pass or fail rating?

So I bought this game a while back on Limited Run. Wasn't sure what I was expecting. Perhaps maybe more of a game and not the experience like it is. Play around and figure out the world. Fitting in with a theme of business, to kick of Season 3, we are taking a look at Going Under from Aggro Crab, a rogue-lite (Rogue-like? I never know.) that pokes fun of corporate culture as well. Does it synergize or will it circle back to you later with an answer.
Well, yeah, it'll circle back to you later with an answer. It's Two Good Hours. Not One Good Hour. My answer of a pass/fail rating will come at the end of the second hour. Obviously. Like it always has.

"Can't be that bad" seems to be the phrase you say before something really bad happens. Like "Hold my beer" or "Relax, I saw this on TV once." But really, the bare minimum I have for these three games is 1) Run decently 2) Be better than the mobile ports. Look, I just want to be in the middle of a major American city playing these games as well as I did at a friend's house on the PS2 in 2002. This is precisely what I intend to find out.
And my conclusion shocked me.
Starting off with GTA 3.

Two Good Hours - #7 - Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3 (GBA/Wii U)
ThatDonParker
Originally recorded on 02/18/2022
With the recent news Wii U and 3DS eShop closing in late March 2023, I felt like I needed to bring the spotlight to this often ridiculed system. I agree that the Wii U simply just didn't have the library, but what we got was some unique games in a neat little system. A pretty good, bordline great Virtual Console lineup (the Wii U had GBA and DS games when the 3DS didn't). The concept of "asymetrical gaming" should have been explored more. TVii was way ahead of its time. Miiverse!
I also feel like one of the gems of the system is hidden gem in plain sight. Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario 3. I know what you are saying. How can a GBA remake of one of the best, if not THE best, NES games be considered a hidden gem? What if I told you this version of the game had e-Reader support. Cards you would use to swipe to unlock games and content in GBA games. And new levels that were locked behind the e-Reader functionality were now available to play?
We take a look at those new levels in the second hour, but we also take a look at the original Mario Bros and the first three worlds before we take a look at the "new" content. (This version is almost 20 years old after all, but the Wii U version will go away if you don't pick it up on the Wii U eShop!)
What's "Two Good Hours"? I give you two hours with a game, along with a binary rating system of "PASS" or "FAIL" while you decide if a game is worth your time!

Two Good Hours - #6 - Meatsauce Madness - The Game

When Wrestling Superstar, Virgil, makes a request to you to play his game, Meatsauce Madness, you have no choice but to go big. And what better way to do that than bringing back "Two Good Hours" for its second season!
What's "Two Good Hours"? I give you two hours with a game, along with a binary rating system of "PASS" or "FAIL" while you decide if a game is worth your time!
Not gonna lie. I play a lot of mobile games. I love my Switch but I can't really bring that bad boy out whenever I want. Sometimes, all I can do is just pull out my phone whenever I need a quick break.
I may play a lot of mobile games, but this is my first "Two Good Hours" episode on one. How well does this one stack up compared to most other games on app stores right now? Does it get the sauce? Or does it sit all by itself in a restaurant, waiting to place your order, because the waiter just forgot you were there?
In this episode, we take a look at Meatsauce Madness and give our first impressions.

Developed by Ludosity back in 2013. We take a look at this charming game considered to be the flagship for this Swedish developer. Is it one of the best Zelda clones or is it one of a million?

Before Sega was a power house with its mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. Sega had a mascot named Alex Kidd way back in 1986. 35 years later, Merge Games and Jankenteam released a remake of the original game.
Does it rock? Does it make the cut? Or is the margin for error tight? (Paper puns are hard. I hope you see what I was trying to do there.)

Welcome to the first half of the first blind playthrough of "Two Good Hours"!
For Breath of the Wild and Golf Story, I had experiences with those games. But with Mario Golf Super Rush? It was an all-new, first time experience right here. Does the game live up to its predecessors or should you be dusting off those old consoles?
Now, before you say "Hey, games are complicated pieces of media! You can't give me a rating with decimals, or a letter grade. That's barely enough time to critique it."
We get acquanted with Mario Golf Super Rush's mechanics and physics. Does it get a green jacket or does it have poor form?
And to that I say, you're right! Two hours is barely enough time to adequately rate a game.
I give you two hours with a game, along with a binary rating system of "PASS" or "FAIL" while you decide if a game is worth your time!
