After the daily upkeep of conditioning and toes to bar I got into a second iteration of pressing this week.

Since it’s not the best idea to increase my pressing load or my per session pressing volume, I’ll increase the aggregate volume with higher frequency so I can “have my cake and eat it too.”

If you can’t safely or sustainably train a thing harder, longer or heavier, train it more often 🤷🏿‍♂️

With that in mind, I basically did a replay of Monday’s workout starting with incline dumbbells. Since they’re light, barely heavy enough for a training effect, the key here is to cultivate the negative stroke and get as big a stretch in the hole as possible.

Next, for Louie’s, I hit these wide at the bottom the Smith Machine for a slight DECLINE angle on the sternal pec and to grip the thick bar. I do these APFT style fast, looking to do a repetition/second in sub-maximal sets of 20-ish to keep the concentric velocity of each rep high.

Last, I did overhead extensions, close grip with a straight bar. The EZ-Curl bar is… “easier” on the tendon at the elbow but that’s precisely the tissues I want the strongest for pressing/punching power so I chose the straight bar deliberately and just reduced the load. Like the dumbbells, with the lower load the key is the eccentric and stretch.
