RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
Tur: “Will these strikes shift the tactics of Iran?”
STAVRIDIS: “I think they will. And here’s why. Iran is going to push, push, push right up to the limit. But they don’t want a war with the United States. The reason they don’t want a war with the United States is they would lose devastatingly. Let’s hope we don’t get there. No one wants a regional war. But we’ve been here before with Iran. In the late ’80s, Iran tried to mine the Strait of Hormuz, United States objected to that. We did, kind of, a vertical escalation. And ultimately, we struck the Iranian navy and destroyed about a third of it. I don’t think we’ll get there because I think the Mullahs will recognize that this latest round is, kind of, the last exit before the tunnel, if you will, Katy. Let’s certainly hope so.”
