Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Punk suffered a “significant injury” during the men’s Royal Rumble match. There was speculation at first it was a torn triceps. Punk entered the Rumble at 27 and was runner-up to the winner Cody Rhodes.

It was reported he got injured while taking a DDT from Drew McIntyre. Footage from the event showed Punk mouthed about an injury to a doctor. After an initial follow-up from Fightful, Mike Johnson of PWInsider confirmed Punk suffered a torn triceps. It is believed he will be heading towards surgery. Before he does, Punk will address WWE fans on RAW tonight (January 29, 2024) in Tampa.

Torn tricep recovery time
A typical recovery time for patients following surgery for a torn triceps tends to be about six months. That leaves Punk potentially returning in the summer. Punk experienced a torn triceps following AEW All Out in September 2022. Recovering and suspended following a brawl with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Punk returned to action in June 2023.

Will CM Punk compete at WrestleMania 40?
Given the recovery time needed following surgery, Punk will miss WrestleMania 40.

Punk was penciled in to face Seth Rollins, who was recently diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL tear and partially torn meniscus in his left knee. At this moment, the match will not be happening.

WWE could pivot to Rollins defending the WWE World Heavyweight Title against the likes of Gunther, Drew McIntyre, or Damian Priest if Punk will not be ready for WrestleMania. @redcarpetring #wwe #royalrumble #cmpunk
