Should They Create A Women's Mid Card Championship?
Should They Create A Women's Mid Card Championship? A mid-card championship would benefit the WWE women’s division WWE is slowly building the women’s division throughout the company and the group would benefit from a mid-card title.
According to multiple reports, Vince McMahon is out of the WWE creative business, focusing on other “duties” while Triple H leads all things creative. This has led to the television programming receiving more positive reviews over the last few weeks to month. One thing fans have noticed is more women appear on television each week. As WWE shows the depth that is available in the women’s division, it’s time to consider introducing a mid-card championship for the group. The WWE women’s division is stacked with talent. People are quick to highlight names like Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Asuka, but even beyond that tier, there are some excellent performers in this group. Candice LeRae, Piper Niven, Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Tegan Nox, Xia Li, Mia Yim, Zelina Vega, and more already jumped off the page. And that’s before considering the women developing on the NXT roster. There’s a wealth of talent in this promotion. And the division is too stacked for only two championships. Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky are dominating at the top, not leaving a lot of room for women to compete with big stakes throughout the rest of the roster. Developing a mid-card championship would give something for the rest of the ladies to chase and create the space for more to be featured on television and in other ways. Now, someone is immediately going to point toward WWE’s failure with the women’s tag team championships and division. That is a true statement that speaks to the issues with the last regime and many wonder if it is at a point of no repair. With 35 women on the main roster including the champions, there’s plenty of space to build a tag division that works and an additional title for the women in the mid-card.
A big piece of the solution would be starting slow. Instead of creating a title for both SmackDown and Monday Night Raw, it would make more sense to create one title and have it float between both shows. Build consistency with that title and the women competing for it before trying to do the same thing with two titles. WWE has shown an ability to rebuild the mid-card scene. Look at what GUNTHER is doing with the Intercontinental Championship. While that title seems ahead of the United States Championship, both are in much better places than they were at this same point last year.
Imagine giving someone like Bayley, Alba Fyre, or Vega a long run as a mid-card champion and using that momentum to build a younger star when the time is right. Trish Stratus is still around making a last run and she could even help elevate the roster by participating. While some will demand that WWE focus on the tag team division first, putting together a mid-card championship for the women’s division would be a benefit as well. There are too many talented women on this roster to keep so much backstage. As more find their way to television and into angles, giving them another prize to chase would help build new stars for fans to get behind and elevate the entire company. @redcarpetring #wwe #womenswrestling #intercontientalchampionship

Why Does This Seem Or Not Seem Like A Work?
Why Does This Seem Or Not Seem Like A Work? How WWE Can Salvage WrestleMania 40 Main Event With Reigns, Rock and Rhodes It's not an exaggeration to say WWE has created one of its biggest creative blunders of all time with the messy Roman Reigns-Cody Rhodes-The Rock situation.
At this point, the disaster must be a source of secondhand embarrassment for fans.
Rhodes won the men's Royal Rumble, looked poised to main-event WrestleMania 40 and finish his story, only for Rock to come and take his spot.
Endless he said-she said buzz and backtracking from outside WWE, plus the company itself starting to pretend this was all one big work to confuse fans, has outright ruined the build to 'Mania.
But there's an easy way to salvage it.
Pivot, with Rock involved as a referee for the main event between Rhodes and Reigns.
It's maybe the most natural way for WWE to save this situation in a way that makes it seem like this was all just the plan the whole time.
Picture the scenario: Rock comes out to meet Reigns and Paul Heyman for the contract signing. Once it's done, The Great One asks if The Wise Man actually read it. He didn't. It stipulates that Rock is the referee, Rhodes is the real opponent.
How WWE Can Salvage WrestleMania 40 Main Event With Reigns, Rock and Rhodes
✨ Watch more top videos, highlights, and B/R original content
Silly? Maybe, but it can work. The scenario would get a pass from most fans, a wink-wink "thanks for making it right, WWE" moment, especially if Rhodes goes on to win. Plus, Reigns gets mad at Heyman and is further isolated and during the match, Rock prevents Bloodline interference, setting up a match with The Tribal Chief at a later date.
There's always the question of whether Rock would sign off on this. But even he must see the "Rocky Sucks" chants, a 1996 throwback, and understand. He's had ample opportunity to do this match when it made more sense. Now, even he isn't immune to the wrath of the WWE Universe in an era when all fans are "smart" fans. He's the bad guy in this scenario, point blank, period.
If Rock really wants to play into it, the smart move might be going full-on Hollywood Hogan heel, at least. Maybe he doesn't want to, not after some real Hollywood struggles and his association with other things like football pursuits, but fans would eat it up. WWE would even get a slight win out of it in the form of fans throwing up their hands and actually cheering for Reigns' run to continue.
However, part of what makes this pill so tough to swallow right now is the PR side of a babyface Rock trying to play this off like a returning hero. He tells fans to shut their mouths, plays up the heel, it becomes much easier—and fun.
Because the length of the champion's run is something else to point out. If Rhodes hadn't won the men's Rumble and pointed right at Reigns as the show closed, it makes sense that he defends against Rock this year, gets a win and surpasses Hulk Hogan's third all-time number in the fall. But the last two weeks' worth of booking has been all-time bad to the point one has to wonder if there was some intentional sabotage involved.
The problem with other alternatives to the referee idea is most make Rhodes look worse. That's almost impossible, considering he won the Rumble and then handed off his two-year goal to a part-timer ("but not at WrestleMania" is an all-timer goofball line now). But his going on to sit in a Triple Threat with Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre instead would be stunningly bad.
So, too, would forcing Reigns to pull double duty, main-eventing Night 1 of 'Mania against The Rock before Rhodes gets a shot at The Tribal Chief 24 hours later. In that scenario, it might seem to fans that The American Nightmare only finally beat Reigns because Rock softened him up first.
We could say there are ways around this, like booking a quick squash, but Rock doesn't seem willing to do something like that, no?
And finally, the idea of a Triple Threat. Rock probably eats the pin no matter who wins, so Rhodes would never actually "pin" Reigns. Or in the opposite scenario, he gets treated unfairly again, probably as The Bloodline holds him back while Rock takes the three-count.
Hence, the special guest referee pivot.
Rock needs to read the room and step back, which would further the family-based storyline down the road while appeasing fans and the organic storytelling that has unfolded for years without his involvement.
Even then, there's debate on whether Rhodes should actually win in this scenario, with Hogan's record so close now. But it beats shoving him into a different title match and making him look worse than he already does, even if fans see through to the overarching mistakes.
In a way, this feels like a war between two eras. Not too long ago, part-timers could come back and insert themselves into any match and get a nice response. But that ship has sailed, leaving this whole thing feeling really jarring and out of touch.
With this proper pivot, though, the whole thing could look much better in hindsight. More importantly, it would put the build to WrestleMania back on track and be a signal to fans that this is indeed a new time for pro wrestling, with WWE really earning the "golden era" descriptor that is often thrown out.
If not, and WWE stubbornly pushes this current course through, the regression and erosion of trust from fans could be an all-time mistake. @redcarpetring #romanreigns, #therock, #codyrhodes

Who Should Finally Dethrone Her?
Since defeating Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania last year, Ripley has quickly become the most dominant woman in WWE and possibly all of professional wrestling. She has surpassed 300 days as champion and shows little to no signs of slowing down. The Women’s World Championship has been defended by Ripley six times since winning it in April. Her first defense was the following PLE at Backlash against Zelina Vega .Following this defense, Ripley would enter a brief, yet forgettable feud with Natalya and successfully defend her title twice on WWE Night of Champions and a few weeks later on Monday Night Raw. Her most meaningful feud so far during this title reign has been against Raquel Rodriguez. Ripley defeated Rodriguez at WWE Payback two months back in September.
She also was able to defeat her again on Monday Night Raw two nights later. The overall best match since during her reign thus far has arguably been the fatal-five-way match at WWE Crown Jewel just a few weeks ago, Expecting her to walk out with the belt, three candidates are the most likely to take the belt from Ripley.

WWE Smackdown Live Show Commentary Reaction
After overcoming Randy Orton, LA Knight and AJ Styles in a Fatal 4-Way Match at Royal Rumble, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns makes his triumphant return to SmackDown to stand face-to-face with the winner of the 2024 Royal Rumble Cody Rhodes.
Standing supreme for more than 1,240 days, The Head of the Table has conquered the best in the business, including Rhodes at WrestleMania 39 thanks to a Solo Sikoa assist, and seems all but unstoppable on The Island of Relevancy.
Moments after winning the Royal Rumble Match as well as during the press conference after the Premium Live Event, Rhodes made it clear that he had every intention of challenging Reigns in an attempt to finally finish his story in a rematch at The Showcase of the Immortals. His path hit an unexpected turn, though, when World Heavyweight Champion Seth "Freakin" Rollins confronted Rhodes on Raw and made his case as to why he was the man that Rhodes needed to defeat for the "true championship" on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
As speculation reaches a favor pitch as to which World Champion Rhodes will choose to challenge, Reigns will stand toe-to-toe with The American Nightmare as the future of the WrestleMania main event hangs in the balance.
Will Rhodes make his decision? Is the intense war of words destined to descend into chaos? Moments after he got disqualified for using the brass knuckles that Logan Paul introduced during an intense United States Title Match at Royal Rumble, an irate Kevin Owens responded by powerbombing the arrogant titleholder through the announce table after the match.
This Friday, Logan is set to make his return to the blue brand after his controversial victory, and KO will likely be looking to get another piece of the outspoken titleholder.
Just 48 hours after outlasting 29 other Superstars to win the Royal Rumble Match, Bayley came to Raw seemingly ready to declare which Women's Championship she would pursue at The Grandest Stage of Them All. While most believed that she would select Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley, considering that WWE Women's Champion IYO SKY is her ally in Damage CTRL, The Role Model had her announcement cut short when Nia Jax attacked the emerging Eradicator.
With Ripley laid out in the ring, Jax warned Bayley that The Eradicator won't even make it to WrestleMania. In response, Bayley explained that she plans on making her decision this Friday on the blue brand.

John Laurinaitis Seemingly Confirms Vince McMahon Allegations, Also Claims To Be A Victim
John Laurinaitis Seemingly Confirms Vince McMahon Allegations, Says He's Also A Victim
Last Thursday, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a 67-page lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and former WWE executive John Laurinitis outlining allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and a number of other abuses. McMahon has since resigned from his corporate positions at TKO Group Holdings despitedenying the accusations against him. Laurinitis, on the other hand, has seemingly confirmed the allegations against McMahon — though not the allegations against himself.
According to a statement provided by Laurinitis' lawyer, Edward Brennan (via VICE News), the former WWE Head of Talent Relations maintains that he is a victim in this case, much like the plaintiff, Janel Grant. @kdh7004 #viral, #vincemcmahon, #wwe

Why Former World Champion Brand Is Compromised?
Why Former World Champion Brand Is Compromised? Brock Lesnar has been marred by controversy recently following a bombshell report, and his time in WWE has been impacted.
Former executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings, Vince McMahon, has found himself out of WWE following a lawsuit filed by former company employee Janel Grant. McMahon and former WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis are accused of sexually abusing Grant.
The lawsuit also alleges that McMahon shared explicit photos of Grant and a video of her urinating to an unnamed wrestler who requested it. The Wall Street Journal reported that the talent in question was Brock Lesnar. As a result of the report and allegations, Brock Lesnar was reportedly removed from the Royal Rumble event this past weekend. Now, Fightful Select is reporting that it may quite some time before wrestling fans see Brock Lesnar back in the ring again.
If that report holds true, which is very likely, given the circumstances, don't expect him to make his return to the UFC. Both UFC and WWE are now under the same umbrella, TKO Group Holdings. While UFC CEO Dana White has a strong relationship with TKO CEO Ari Emanuel, Ari is doing all he can to wipe away the negativity that McMahon has left behind, and that goes for TKO as a whole.
PWInsider reported that Emanuel might clean house when it comes to those who worked closely with Vince McMahon. That could mean doom for any remaining backstage WWE worker who was labeled a "Vince Guy," and it may even be the end of Brock Lesnar under the bright lights. @kdh7004 #viral #brocklesnar #vincemcmahon

WrestleWeek News Day and Night
Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Punk suffered a “significant injury” during the men’s Royal Rumble match. There was speculation at first it was a torn triceps. Punk entered the Rumble at 27 and was runner-up to the winner Cody Rhodes.
It was reported he got injured while taking a DDT from Drew McIntyre. Footage from the event showed Punk mouthed about an injury to a doctor. After an initial follow-up from Fightful, Mike Johnson of PWInsider confirmed Punk suffered a torn triceps. It is believed he will be heading towards surgery. Before he does, Punk will address WWE fans on RAW tonight (January 29, 2024) in Tampa.
Torn tricep recovery time
A typical recovery time for patients following surgery for a torn triceps tends to be about six months. That leaves Punk potentially returning in the summer. Punk experienced a torn triceps following AEW All Out in September 2022. Recovering and suspended following a brawl with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Punk returned to action in June 2023.
Will CM Punk compete at WrestleMania 40?
Given the recovery time needed following surgery, Punk will miss WrestleMania 40.
Punk was penciled in to face Seth Rollins, who was recently diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL tear and partially torn meniscus in his left knee. At this moment, the match will not be happening.
WWE could pivot to Rollins defending the WWE World Heavyweight Title against the likes of Gunther, Drew McIntyre, or Damian Priest if Punk will not be ready for WrestleMania. @redcarpetring #wwe #royalrumble #cmpunk
