The Back Meats

Today’s one of those, “it could go either way” training days.

On the one hand, yesterday was very long and fatiguing work-wise so I feel less than optimally motivated, but energy wise my body feels like it’s been too long since the last time I lifted.

What I ended up doing is splitting the difference by increasing the load slightly and decreasing the volume to just 2 exercises, 10 sets total.

I started off with the Hammer Strength ISO-Row, heavy (for me) at 4x plates/side. I normally pull these in the 4-6 range but since this is 1 of 2 exercises I increased the reps and pulled in the 7-10 range.

Following those, since I can’t NOT feel every fiber in my back doing them, I did wide-grip cable lat pulldowns. Here, at THIS gym on THIS stack I usually set the load at the 130pin so today I went 1 pin heavier but kept the reps the same, in the 10-12 range.

I’d have loved to hit a machine or 2 but I have a busy day ahead and 10 sets is plenty for maintenance, especially with these loads in this rep range.

I have a delicious, EXTRA thick shake waiting for me. I think I crammed almost 6 scoops in this one so it’ll be a fantastic breakfast on the go.
