Russia has started 2024 with one of, if not the largest missile strike on Ukraine, targeting its air defence systems, weapon storage facilities and other defence industry infrastructure. Russia has also adapted to Ukrainian missile strikes on its military bases last year by using decoy aircrafts and equipment. On the frontline, Russia's plan becomes clearer- attack and keep pressure on several axis and wait for a breakthrough. Ukraine then responds by reinforcing a weak point which exposes another axis and Russia shifts to the new weak spot. When Ukraine moved troops from Kupyansk to support the counteroffensive, Russia attacked at Kupyansk. When Ukraine moved troops from Avdiivka to stop the Kupyansk offensive, Russia attacked Avdiivka. On every front, Russia is grinding down Ukrainians who are running low on ammo. For the first time, the Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu reports on their estimate of Ukrainian casualties being 215,000 for 2023 and 385,000 since the Russian invasion in February 2022. Yuri Lutsenko, a former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine says that Ukraine needs to reveal the true casualty figure of over 500,000 dead or serious wounded. There is no hope for Ukraine as Admiral Kirby admits that they have sent all the money they can. The war will end this year.
