The first track I finished for the album, this track was for a short timed event in the game, so I wanted it to have a sense of urgency. I also wanted it to be light-hearted, and as I was searching for inspiration, I found myself very influenced by the bossa nova genre. This song was made for the 21 Days of VGM challenge. This particular day's challenge was to write a track for a mock game cutscene (down below). In the prompt there are two characters. I wanted the melody to mimic a conversation (again, explained below), so I used the flute to represent the girl, and trombone to represent the boy. It was a wintertime scene, so I couldn't resist putting sleigh bells in. Only quietly; just like the night would have been in the scene. In this hypothetical game, there is a scripted cutscene showing a flashback of our protagonist and their love interest as children. The two children are meeting up at a solitary lamp post - their usual meeting spot - just after nightfall to enjoy the beauty of the first snowfall of the year. They've been doing this for years, are both bundled up, but the conversation is much more sentimental than usual. This song was made for 21 Days of VGM challenge back in January of 2019. Posted almost a year later to YouTube. At the time I wrote it, I didn't think it was finished, but after going through a lot of my other days songs recently I found this one and thought it was just where it needed to be. The day's challenge was to write in an odd time signature, so I took a 8/8 time signature broken into a 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2 pattern. I think the song would fit well in a RPG store, hence the name. The title of this song is inspired by the online mini-series, Starter Squad. The song itself was my best attempt at making a pokemon style battle song.
