What's goin' on, Headbangers!? I'm Erick Benhardtson, your host for TMTV's Headbangers Ball! Welcome to the new and improved SGT Rock's Headbangers Ball.

We're moving forward with a new name and we're going to be taking chances with the format of the show and we hope we can make everyone happy who comes by to rock out with us.

This show was fun to make. As a direct ancestor to Erick the Red, putting this show together was both a journey and a learning experience. The more I delved into the music, the more I was able to go back and celebrate my ancestry through self-education. The deeper I got into making the show, the more fun I had producing it.

The show we have lined up for you is as brutal as when we invaded, plundered and caused kingdoms to pay us a bounty out of respect, fear, and for protection from other aggressors.

Vikings, my heritage, my ancestry. Our history is both one of triumph, and sorrow. While the Old Norse sea-raiders we call Vikings were mostly known for their brutal raids and forceful settlements around the European continent, they also achieved many arguably impressive feats during their heyday. Some of these came in the form of epic journeys to the edges of the known world, the likes of which would not be seen again for more than 500 years.
Two Norse sagas—Grænlendinga saga (“Saga of the Greenlanders”) and Eiríks saga rauða (“Erik the Red’s Saga”)—offer somewhat different accounts of the first Viking visits to North America, which they called Vinland (land of wild grapes). According to the Grænlendinga saga, the first European to sight mainland North America was Bjarni Herjólfsson, whose Greenland-bound ship was blown westward off course about 985 and apparently skirted the coastline of eastern Canada before returning to Greenland. This tradition contends that about 1000 a crew of 35 men led by Leif Eriksson, son of Erik the Red, went in search of the land sighted by Bjarni and found their way to eastern Canada.

That's right, folks. We, Vikings, were the first from the land across the big pond. Christopher Columbus can pound sand and kick rocks. I used to piss off my teachers when they taught about CC and the 3 Ships. “Ah that’s a crock o’ shit!” Leif Erikkson did it first! That Spanish pussy never even stepped foot on North American soil. Should be Leif Erikkson Day, not CC and the 3 Ships day! Til Valhall! Can’t tell ya how long I spent I’d spent in the principal’s office over this. Never believe everything you’re taught. The government wants to keep us stupid. Nah, fuck that!
